They already decide to and stifle the free exchange of ideas.

You are arguing to avoid a system that already exists.

Eh. If I tracked which posts/threads go deleted the most, I could probably form a pretty good argument that the moderation here is slanted to a certain political ideology.

And even then, moderation here is absolutely "arbitrary"

I doubt it if we're talking here. Poliboard maybe, but there are still plenty of shitposting progressives that regularly post there without issue.

Twitter on the other hand banned a United States President.

Its certainly not absolute, which is why its arbitrary, which is the definition that was used to describe a "publisher"

So I guess this introduces the possibility that Jack Dorsey could be called to Indian court to defend posts about "one foot pineses" and "veganas."

You cant be this slow. You must be trolling

1) twitter/youtube isnt a free exchange of ideas when they demonetize or ban you for having an opinion (especially one that is rooted in facts)

2) yes. It would stifle twitter into nonexistence. Because twitter doesnt deserve government protection.

Have you ever heard of project veritas?
Donald trump
Twitter banned a New York Post article

Youtube has listed 3 strikes against steven crowder. Shut down brett weinsteins podcast.

This isnt difficult to comprehend how social media does not act like your telephone company.

and I find it hard to believe that you are this shortsighted

why are you pretending that only YT and Twitter are user generated sites?

are you advocating for the government to actively pick winners and losers here? because that is what it seems y'all are arguing

They're user generated sites who's leadership has decided to very blatantly censor in one direction politically.

But you know this, and are just playing your obtuse OT schtick.

Anyone arguing against Twitter and other social media platforms being decoupled from government and politics in almost every way is doing so disingenuously, and it is clear they likely wouldn't have the same opinion on the matter if their particular "side" in the debate was the target of such policies.

Have one set of rules that every single person/account plays by, or do away with them all. Period.

Give me an absolute definition of publisher so that we can codify it into law

the problem that y'all are ignoring is subjective definitions of offensive material

and y'all ignore it because y'all don't have a solution

y'all keep bringing up "unfair" censorship but hand wave away other "unfair" censorship while not seeing the subjectivity of this right in your face

Again, they already do.

They defend monopolies and ignore collusion to keep competing entities from the market.

You keep bringing up possible “negatives”, but those “negatives” are already occurring.

“It could be worse”

I would rather remove their protections and force it to come to a head, because the “worse” you are referencing will most likely come whether they lose immunity or not.

Hell, Facebook is currently asking their users to “report anyone who may have extremist views” so that they, as a company can intervene and help that person.

Dude, we are so beyond the level of “what the frick” at this point that something drastic needs to be done.

These monopolistic entities wield an ungodly amount of power, and it is just getting worse.

If the small ones suffer to bring down the giants, it is a sacrifice I will happily make every day of the week.

I can't see how it get anything but worse. I'm legitimately afraid of what it will have morphed the world into by the time my kids are using it.

so we want more? what logic is this?

I'm an advocate for the free exchange of ideas and I despise censorship. I've always held these ideas.

I'll never advocate for something that will limit that further. Removing Section 230 protections would absolutely kill the free exchange of ideas all across the internet.

Y'all are just ignoring the root causes of these issues, and instead addressing those, you won't to pick on the low hanging fruit.

Does anyone actually believe Twitter and Facebook are private companies? They're arms of our massive intelligence apparatus. Snowden and Assange have shown that beyond dispute. Social media exists as an end-run around the 1st and 4th Amendments. Collusion between big tech and big government is a hallmark of a fascist state, and yet those on the political left, who claimed to resist fascism, are too stupid to realize they're being duped.

its a completely subjective measure, anyone can think something is unfair

you want the government to start defining what is and what isn't a conservative belief?

Name another social media platform that is censoring based on political ideology like Twitter, YouTube, or Facebook.

There is a reason Gen Z has such a high rate of suicide, depression, anxiety, and general mental illness.

And that isn’t just because they are “more open” and able to talk about it easier than the previous generations.

These are higher rates of hospitalizations, suicide attempts and successes.

My general medical viewpoint is that no one should allow their kids to use any form of social media until college and phones, given at age 16 when they can drive, should have only the ability to make phone calls and send/receive texts.

I just named TD and you waved it away as nothing because you don't deem it unfair or unbalanced, while obviously, other people do

I guarantee this happens on every forum or message board across the internet to some degree

but you know this...and you call me "obtuse"
