Maybe BR has gotten better since I moved. Everything I've said are from observations when I lived there and was part of that demographic. About four years ago.

Like I said a few weeks ago, without LSU, Baton Rouge is nothing but Alexandria

I'm not trying to go to a timeshare meeting or get roped into selling Amway. There just wasn't shite to do on a regular basis for me or anyone I knew

Damnit nurse quit playing right into tb08s game. He's about to jump in and ask for pothole coordinates again.

If City hate/qualify of life threads ever were banned on this site, it would greatly improve the quality of this Board.

And I never said Scottsdale is the best place in the U.S. to live.

There are sooo many awesome cities in the U.S. to live.

But it is a million times better than BR. I challenge anyone (not from either city)to visit both BR and Scottsdale and then tell me..."I would rather vacation in BR than Scottsdale!"

1 of 3 adults are fat...truth.

Over 1,200 people are violent, mathematically exact or close, sounds about right...

On par with God DAMN Rockford, IL -- Jesus.

Prescott is a cool little town. Too small for me to live there though. However...awesome weather there in the summer(and they get snow in the winter). Perfect place to get away from the heat in PHX metro area...it's like an hour drive away.

It's a pretty area as well...

She doesn't have to be a total bitch about like she's been for years and rubbing Arizona in everyone's faces.

Her hatred for Louisiana in general is personal and sad to watch as there a lot of good people here that happily call this state home.

Growing up in BR likely has fricked her mind up.

Traffic is my number one issue but it has far less to do with actual traffic than idiots who get in accidents. There are days when there are three accidents on a two mile stretch of I 10 at the same time. Idiots who can't dive on the interstate need to be forced to use public transport.

And, finally, the damn rain. Sick of it

I could have said kayaking the LSU lakes if I wanted somewhere close to go. The basin is big enough to explore.

Your defense of BR is valiant I won't fault you there. The problem is your logic when speaking of quality of life.

In every single one of the 200+ cities with pop over 100K, you can find a volume of water where you can drop in a kayak. It's all about the comparisons that matter. In your mind you are putting Town Lake in Austin on a level field with the grimy dredged LSU Lakes.

You can get outside and into a running group in any location in the county.

What are your subjective advantages of BR over any other similar sized city? That's what I would be curious to hear.

In my mind these are close enough. I've been to Austin on the water before and there's trash in the water there too. But regardless of that, the point is that there's not really anything to do on that lake except paddle around. Same with University Lake. If you want to get out and explore or really cover some ground out away from all the people, you're going to have to get out of town no matter where you are. The atchafalaya basin is extensive enough to explore and it's beautiful if you get out in it. There are some clean, sandy rivers nearby as well if you want that instead. I know there are a lot of outdoor opportunities in TX outside of Austin too though. The green belt in particular is very accessible from the city and will let you get away from the crowds that accompany any paddleboard opportunities or popular spots like Barton Springs. I'm not disputing this. I'm just pointing out that Baton Rouge has some opportunities as well.

Really, trying to prove that BR is significantly better than your average mid-sized city is not a winning bet. It doesn't stand out in any particular way, although I'd argue that the quality of restaurants is significantly above average for a city this size, especially in the last few years. But the point is not that BR is better than your average midsize city. The point is that there are good opportunities in BR to get out and be active or be social, but a lot of people just don't want to put in the minimal effort it takes to get involved, and would prefer to bitch about how their social life sucks because "there isn't anything to do". And frankly, I think if you're not willing to put in a little effort to find things that you want to do, and then to actually show up, moving to another city isn't going to help you. ETA: not to mention that a lot of people have personal circumstances (job, family, etc) that don't allow them to move.

Personally I wish the culture would change, because if more people were active in the city's social scene and other activities, it would open up more opportunities for all of us.
