No you should sit at home and be miserable instead of driving 45 mins. And then bitch online about how you have nothing to do to fill your time.

I'd love to hear all about this city and the opportunities it provides.

Sorry. Got my jimmies rustled. I still don't know what activities geared toward young professionals are available in other cities of similar size. Maybe I'm just not tuned in enough to that sort of thing. But a big city BR is not, so there are some things that a major city will have (pro sports teams, for instance, or a legit theater district) that BR will never be able to offer. People love to bitch that this means that BR 'is terrible' when really, it's just not a major city, and they just don't want to expend the effort to seek out the opportunities that are available.

It's a fair point that the kayaking and fishing/hunting are outside of town. I guess I'm used to people bitching about not having a place to go hiking or mountain biking or whatever, and I know the outdoors activities are available in LA if you look for them, they just aren't the same activities. And in other towns, they aren't in town either.

Seriously, if you're comparing to NOLA I agree there are way better and more opportunities there for things to do. But NOLA pretty much beats every other city its size in the US. There's a reason it's a top 5 tourist destination in the US despite being a city of what, 500K?

Well even though this wasn't directed my way, I'm bored on the train ride home so I'll respond:

Live entertainment - I really enjoy comedy (standup, improv, sketch, whatever), which is much easier to see around here.

Breweries - There are dozens of breweries within 20 minutes of me, including a couple I can walk to from my house. And there's always something going on at least a few of them on any given night.

Almost to my stop. To be continued.

Baton Rouge is a top 5 tourist destination? You must be smoking crack

The only reason people come from out of town is for LSU games

There is comedy in BR, but yeah you basically have to watch for a good act to come through for it to be worth your time IMO. Point.

Maybe not nearly the number of options you have in Boston, but there are opportunities like this in BR. Tin Roof and Southern Craft have events and tours every weekend, and the beer fests are a lot of fun.

Both of the things you mention are fair points, but BR not having them is more due to the fact that it's a mid sized city than that BR just 'sucks' like so many people like to bitch. There are a number of bars that cater to the late 20's/early 30's crowd, and there are events probably 2-3 times a month that would be comparable to what you're talking about, but if you want nightlife events multiple times a week, a big city is gonna win out every time, period. I'll concede you made some good points.

I still think there is plenty to do in the BR area, not as much as somewhere like Boston, but not so little that I think people have good reason to just bitch about it.

Note I never once said BR sucks, or anything close to that.

My statement was that there's not a lot of things geared towards people that are out of college but not yet ready to start families (i.e.- young professionals). I stand by that.

Gulfport-Biloxi-Pascagoula area is where I grew up.

Don't you only need shoes, socks, shorts and a shirt to run around the block? Aren't there more than a few games that require grass and/or one ball to play.

GTFO with that.

Subscribe to the Dig Magazine e-mail list. I get almost daily e-mails about various night life events around BR, almost all catered to the 21-35 year old crowd.

I will admit that if you don't already have a group of friends in town, then BR can feel dead. There's not really many events or places to go solo.
