Cliff's?
One day while this guy was eating breakfast served to him by a black nanny, his mother tells him he's an untalented candy arse and she intends to man him up. She sends him to live a week with an edentulous shrimper based in Bucktown, who may or may not have fondled his croaker. They hit they water every morning at dawn and just when things finally seem to be going well, the kid drops a hardhead catfish onto the deck and the crotchety old buggerer steps on it piercing his foot and requiring hospitalization. Old man's family tells op's mom "Captain says, 'Yep, your son's a spaz'."

So, now he takes pictures of roadside shite for fun.

TulaneLSU is one of my favorite posters.

Having come to Louisiana from Georgia 37 years ago I have had the opportunity to mingle among the various social classes of the area. I will never be from here in the eyes of most natives as I didn’t go to high school or college with any one here. The taxes I have paid and the time I have spent in the community do not matter.

To me the blue bloods of New Orleans seem to be descended from old families that made their money a century ago. Most today are not of noteworthy accomplishment in industry.

I would be interested in seeing TulaneLSU’s idea of the top ten families of industry.

How does that make you feel, paying taxes?

God bless you, TulaneLSU. Anyone who talks poorly about your threads are jealous of your creativity and knowledge.

1. Well, we know your mother was slightly mistaken respecting her assessment that no one would read your writing. Many do and enjoy it. Rave on John Donne.

2. Sadly Saltaformaggio's Grocery Store on Live Oak has disappeared and does not make the Bucktown Signs top ten. ( I couldn't find an image of the store online ) Mrs. M and I purchased our groceries there the first few years of our marriage, walking there from our duplex on Live Oak toting our ever growing family with us each trip. The Saltaformaggios made us feel as if we were more their friends than their customers.
3. My parents also sought to correct any false notions I might have developed regarding privilege and defects of psyche through the rough and ready method of hard physical labor and that as much as could be provided during summers and holidays. Because of my Dad's close connections to the industry, he picked commercial roofing for me the summer I turned 15. I continued in it through my junior year in college.
4. Living in a world overrun by Pelagians is difficult for the hardcore Five Point Calvinist. It's nearly as difficult to maintain the sharper, harder edges of that Calvinism and be an orthodox Prayer Book Anglican. The Prayer Book's sacramental emphasis and its multiple declarations in the Baptismal Rite that "this child is regenerate" necessarily softens the harsher aspects of Calvinism if not erode them to insignificance. I think Augustus Toplady managed to balance both with sufficient deftness to pen some pretty good hymns. I also recall reading evangelical Bishop J.C. Ryle, no hardcore Calvinist at all, tying himself in theological and rhetorical knots trying to explain why baptismal regeneration in the Prayer Book is not baptismal regeneration.

Best Regards.

The casual, justifiable treachery of nest shoving nailed perfectly.

So far as the the OT, Mr. Ed's is great, but it will take at least 100 years for a place with marble bartops and blonde wood to acquire the ramshacklensess of the classic Bucktown vibe.
Again, this by no means is a slam to Mr.Ed's. Quite the opposite.

My Great Uncle was a butcher at S&A and I grew up with the Saltaformaggios as well....

If you grew up playing at Lakeshore Playground you knew everyone from that area...

Rock-N-Bowl has a big Lakeshore reunion every year and it's a blast. John Blancher grew up playing there and was one one of my first coaches... It's amazing the people who grew up in that area.

Sid Mar's is the biggest loss after Katrina. My friends grandfather owned Bernice's seafood next door to it. We would sit at the bar and drink cold Barqs rootbeers all the time and no one ever thought it was strange to see kids sitting at a bar... Good Times.

In any event, I really like Station’s 6 rendition of the trademark, particularly the great color palette. I’ve not eaten in this building since it was II Tony’s. I suppose now I have to try it.

Station 6 is very good.

Anything past West Esplanade is not officially Bucktown.

I think it was SidMar's where first encountered the "shrimp boat" dish.

A magnum opus. I am a little disappointed to see upstart Section 6 ranked so highly but otherwise unimpeachable.

Bucktown is New Orleans.

CCC,

It has been far too long, dear friend. Please make your presence more known to me. I hope you have been well. Thank you for the kind thoughts.
