Of all the years to go on vacation to Seattle and Portland
maybe you should have gone to Maine

Sent this to my favorite Seattle Tiger. Well done. There are still those of us who understand what we are losing. It’s a profound decline/loss. And it’s as much a poverty of the soul as a material poverty.

“This is an emptiness of something that has never been full.”
Great line, bravo.

Odd. The streets aren’t empty or silent here. Then again the mayor and city council here didn’t put up with any of the rioting bullshite either.

Unfortunately, all too prophetic.

Even in much better times, relatively speaking, the area sucks so bad it was the birthplace of a dark and gloomy music genre that was popular for several years.

I've seen the exact same things in Birmingham, ATL, pretty much every city has been experiencing this shite since the lockdowns. A 25% unemployment with half the population thinking we are all going to die has lead to some nasty results. I suggest you all read about the plague of athens.
Accounts of the Athenian plague graphically describe the social consequences of an epidemic. Thucydides' account clearly details the complete disappearance of social morals during the time of the plague:
...the catastrophe was so overwhelming that men, not knowing what would happen next to them, became indifferent to every rule of religion or law.”
—?Thucydides, History of the Peloponnesian War[7]
This perceived impact of the Athenian plague on collective social and religious behavior echoes accounts of the medieval pandemic best known as the Black Death,[8] although scholars have disputed its objective veracity in both instances, citing a historical link between epidemic disease and unsubstantiated moral panic.[9][10]
