In my mind, ideal. You know, because frick the needs of the individual when you have the needs of the many..... I wonder where that came from..... HMMMMM.....

Lots of universities actually restrict certain ethnicities to allow white people to fill some of the ranks. All in the name of diversity.

I went to Tulane. Don’t see why this is a big deal. Harvard etc have been mandating this crap for years. It isn’t going to change any 18 year olds mind.

Well, let's not pretend these diversity classes are backed by any legitimate science or data. They're basically political doctrine cooked up by radical social justice university staff, peer reviewed by others of the same persuasion, then paraded around as science and truth

How can they "require" it? That is totally dumb and sounds like a BS class like Freshman Orientation that counts for 1 credit

They can make it a mandatory class to receive a degree.

eta and I would be surprised if they made it at least a 3 hr class.

I guarantee that if any student dares to question the curriculum, they'll have a target on their back.

Especially not at Tulane. Just coaches them on how to hone their skills.

The class requirements come after several incidents where minority students complained of harassment by white students.

and "diversity" will of course mean

So, some leftist pieces of shite just made up some bullshite about white harassment and now people have to pay thousands of dollars for these worthless credit hours, some little leftist weiner telling them they're evil.

No they aren't. This is their tried and true mechanism for implementing their indoctrination programs, and especially the entrenched activist slime who teach them.

The best bit of advice I have ever received from one of my fraternity brothers after he saw me spending an inordinate amount of time on a Philosophy essay.

"Why are you wasting your time writing something contrarian to the views he is espousing". "It's a liberal arts class and he will give you a B, just so you might take an interest in keeping his "fiefdom" relevant".

"Agree with everything professors of sociology, anthropology, philosophy teach, get a grade and then move on".

"You can't fake it in Science courses where you should be spending your time".

All of this diversity crap started decades ago in philosophy classes.

Marxism started in philosophy before Marx wrote. His thinking undergirded John Dewey, Nietzsche, Hegel, and others whose ideas now are in full flower, especially in education curricula.

The crap in the sixties that has come to pass in the last twenty years, with the radical pushing of boundaries in society? That didn't just happen then, and it hasn't all just happened in the last few years with Obama and those who support his socio-political agenda. It's been decades upon decades, and it started with philosophy slowly challenging or trying to break down, idea-by-idea, western culture.

We ignore philosophy at our own peril.

It’s an interesting class experiment. They can then study it to see what the students take away from it. If it seems valuable they can keep it. If it doesn’t, scrap it.

Where my daughter goes to college, they require every student to take philosophy regardless of their area of study. They’ve decided that there is value in that.

Why not just stick with the already-existing distribution requirements? At least one Western and at least one non-Western culture/civilization class.

I took an introductory anthropology course and enjoyed it.
