I miss friends and family waiting for me there when I got off the plane

This looks like a solution in search of a problem

Birmingham's airport already doesn't ask you for your boarding pass. You could walk through security even if you're not flying.
Only other airport I've been to like that is Palm Springs in California, but they sell day passes to walk around the airport there if you don't have a boarding pass. Fantastic airport honestly.
Every other airport I've used asks me for my boarding pass.

That’s not true.
BHM may not ask for a boarding pass specifically, but you’re not getting through TSA without an ID linked to an active boarding pass. BHM is also not on the Gateside program list.
Palm Springs does have the “Stay and Play” pass which allows access through security to dining and shopping gate side. That is the only airport I know of that has a program like that.

This sucks. Why do terminals need to be crowded with 3 times more people that aren’t flying than are? Busier restaurants, bars, less seating at the gates. frick all that.

This does suck. Obvious money grab to get more TSA fee revenue.
That being said, I highly doubt a significant amount of people actually take advantage and of this anytime soon or at all. I hope..

That's what I think. Who wants to go hang out inside an airport? Airports are disgusting.

FIFY.
A few are renovating and actually look nice and clean. A few off the top of my head are PIT and PDX.
That being said. Nothing makes me want to go sit in an airport for overpriced chain food and shopping. Despite how clean they are.

I love hanging out in the Centurion Lounge where there is free food and booze.

I think it is a nice move back towards pre-9/11 normalcy.

So much so you’d go early, pay for parking, and just chill at the airport before picking your spouse or family up?
Cell phone lots for the win here. Going into the airport made sense pre cell phones and pre flight trackers. But I can sit on my couch until 20 mins prior the flight arriving and then head over, maybe wait in the cell lot for 3 mins, and then go pick someone up.
ETA: and if there was a delay on departure you knew real time and have a real time eta

There is a lot to be said about seeing your grandchildren run out of the jetway to greet you.

MSY in NOLA has a similar day pass program to get more people behind TSA to get you to go in and buy overpriced warmed over culinary Cajun delights.
MSY Guest Pass

They won’t. You require a boarding pass to enter, and Chase just cut off access to Priority Pass holders for their lounges.

Those gates aren't big enough for that

Why would anybody do this?
