Saw in another thread that a few of those areas got unreal rain totals in a very short period of time.

Luckily it seems like it was in a pretty tight area and not widespread.

This is Harvey all over again. Places that stayed dry are already taking in water. I have atleast 5-10 people needing to be rescued already and we still have more rain coming. Insane man

Conroe picked up over 5" in an hour this morning.

Winnie to Beaumont over 20" already and still a lot of lightning in the rain bands, suggesting the heavy rainfall rates aren't getting ready to end yet.

Just heard interview with some city official and he said they were caught totally off guard. Was not expecting the rain.
How is that even possible? Do they not read weather forecast

The official forecasts weren't putting out that level of rainfall.

It's why though, when you have the Euro and a bunch of the high res models throwing out huge (30"+) totals, you have to pay attention. The signal was there but it's hard to nail down the where.

Heart goes out to Beaumont and surrounding area. It's not like they didn't get the full brunt of Harvey rains and to go through it again...

I can't imagine.

Wish i could say. Band backbuilt toward northern Hou burbs overnight. Still a ton of lightning over near Winnie, suggesting the convection is still very heavy. Suggests hours more to go.

The only good news I have is tropical induced rains like these typically fade some during the day and get stronger at night. Additionally the low is slowly moving north, which should eventually get the heaviest stuff north of you.

But realize, you guys could easily see an additional 8-12" today. Especially over towards Winnie where the heaviest is still falling right now.

I could understand if he meant they weren’t prepping for a week but the forecast yesterday afternoon clear about the general area that was going to get hammered

It’s hard to prepare for 16” of rain over night no matter what.

Looking at radar, the same spots that got hammered last night are still getting substantial rainfall rates, especially under the current Severe warning near Beaumont.

Back to the west, toward Baytown and north of there, extreme rainfall rates are probably unfolding. Rotation evident, significant lightning, dual pol returns suggesting 4-5" hr rates.

We have been getting it pretty good in kingwood for a while steady team since very early this morning with heavy storms moving through for about 45 minutes. Seems like they keep forming near Conroe and training this way. They say this stuff will slowly move south.

Yep. Pretty much the situation.

With this stuff, see a bunch of lightning and you'll know the rain is about to get really heavy. Conroe picked up over 5" in an hour this morning.

Somewhere in Central Montgomery county saw 8.3" in 90 minutes. Incredible.

Just when I was beginning to think Houston proper was catching a break with the storm that line is sagging south. Flash flood warnings on the north side near the beltway. Spooky looking clouds coming our way

Steady moderate rain in LC with no breaks.

Not as bad as what’s going on 30 miles to our west, but it’s still nasty outside today nonetheless.

It’s funny how this works. This is the second time in 3 years that Lake Charles has missed this type of flooding by such a small distance. Same thing happened with Harvey. We were literally 20 minutes driving distance from being underwater. Same thing happening yesterday and today. The bands following the same path.

We've been getting hammered in that area for a solid two hours. Not letting up. I live an hour from work, so might be staying the night here tonight.

Already reports of homes flooding in Harris county, here in N. Houston
