While I can see it being a pain if you're an actual applicant but the process is broke as frick for both sides.

Applicants with a fake AI resume that have no experience applying for jobs they have no business applying for.

Due to the fake resume they get looked at, make it through company filters.

Then interview where they are attempting to use AI the entire time.

I see it every week, people applying for senior level positions, 150k salary jobs, that cannot answer entry level questions.

I do love when this argument rears it head.

They are.

The underemployment rate of recent college graduates is 42.5%.

College graduates are working service jobs, menial labor, etc.

This could be fixed by not using AI to filter out resumes.

Another fun thing that exists now are the scam listings. They have a fee to apply or they are simply there to obtain data to sell, much like social media sites.

Or after a couple emails try to get you to click on a Trojan horse link

So the pendulum has swung back hard from the Covid days where the employee had the power. I’m shocked corporations haven’t done away with remote work 100%.

Yup. Someone filled these graduates heads with expectations of $150k in their dream job out of school with all the benefits. That ain't how it works

Why don’t these millenials walk up to the foreman and give him a firm handshake and ask for a job like us boomers?

If your looking for a job that doesn't require a 5th grade reading level, that may very well work today.

But for obtaining a professional job in 2026, HR departments wont let managers hire anyone unless they've taken a personality test, IQ test, drug test, had 3 interviews, completed a lengthy questionnaire, and provided 3 references. Corporate hiring policies are littered with red tape.

The worst part is they don't even have the decency to call or email you when they're no longer considering your application.

The career and financial success of boomers had absolutely nothing to do with how they approached the world, but everything to do with the state of the world when they entered it.

And they left it in a much shittier state than when they found it.

My company doesn't, they interview with HR first. The ones good at lying can get through HR with their fake AI resume, looking like an awesome candidate.

Which is equivalent to $46,000 or $22/hour in 2025.

Still less than the average graduates salary and WAY less than their expected salary (which was the point of my post).

I hired people for years. Don’t send me a resume for a full time job, then inform me you want to 9-3 because you a have new baby boy.

So, I shifted gears and walked into an interview with nothing in my hands …”Tell me about you.” “What makes you shine?”

When challenged about not having the resume in my hands……”tell me what’s on page two on your resume……..if I don’t invest in you, what’s there to tell me you invest in me?”

I had new employees later say it was one of most challenging interviews they’ve had. “How long did take for you to memorize my resume?

“Most of time under 30 minutes.”

I’m a physician so it’s a different world, but talking to my younger friends in the business world they make it sound ROUGH.

The guy doesn't mention it, but there's a real problem for older workers too--if they get laid off or fired, it's very difficult to get another job since they are considered overqualified and it would be cheaper to hire someone newer anyway.

This is definitely true. If you are over 50 and you lose your job, good luck finding another one. Even retail won’t hire you.

Those jobs didn't disappear because more people went to college. Someone has to work them.

I agree.

That is an argument for a different thread.

We shouldn’t push everyone to go college.

Did a quick search, the St Tammany health system has several positions open.

So I stick by what I said and people are hiring, just maybe not what he wants.

Well that is my argument. So those people were always going to work those jobs, degree or not.
