tearing down andrew jackson in nola is different. he was a president. he led the american forces in the battle of 1812 to save the city. Yes he was a slave owner, but in that time, what white man of power wasn't. it was just how history was

some things need to be changed. i can understand the middelton one for sure
I don't see how you can square those two opinions in your head

racist memorial
The memorial is racist? It supports the man's views on race that he held in 1961?
Or does it praise the actual good he did for the country, state, and school?
A line must be drawn somewhere, if not the slippery slope leads to everything being deemed evil/racist to do with this country, which then needs to be torn down...statues, founding fathers, the constitution.
You can not hold historical persons to the sensibilities of today.

How about you just stop giving a frick about preserving a really shitty part of our history?
Middleton is a God damned American hero and evolved into a champion for equality. How about we celebrate the fact that a man born in 1889 In fricking MS changed his views

two different time periods of what was deemed societal norm. when Middelton was at LSU times/ideals were changing. To me that makes the difference.

Your playbook is really thin.

Nobody cared until the thought of removing a racist memorial was expressed and now all of a sudden a bunch of rednecks care about history.
It’s not a racist memorial. It’s a library.

Two distinguished military men who fought for their country.
One owned other human beings.
One said some not so nice things about other human beings.
You want to keep option A.
That is completely devoid of logic.

we are talking about 100 years of difference in existence. that makes the difference imo

Again, NOBODY gave a shite about the majority of these memorials until POCs started expressing their distaste for it. The majority of these rednecks, like High C, aren't trying to preserve history. They are just uppity because the scary black man is fiddling with their views of white supremacy.

Your opinion has zero logical foundation.

We are not discussing Confederate Monuments in this case. We are discussing an American war hero from two World Wars and someone who eventually helped lead changes in race relations in this state.
Obviously, arguments for taking down Confederate Monuments can be made from a couple of different angles.
This is not that. A line must be drawn.

It is no longer about removing racism. It is about power and the ability to change everything just because they want to. Like we say.... you give them an inch.
