A Subaru WRX is practical and reliable. So is a used Infinity Q50. The WRX holds value very well.
I was in that mid sized sedan market and landed a Q50S Hybrdid. Great car. I think the Camry is the only car I didn't even bother to look at because of its extreme suck at being even remotely fun.

The 2018s are receiving high praise for upping the fun factor. But someone that buys a Q50 isn't cross shopping it with a Camry, so not surprised you didn't look at them.

I'm looking into replacing the wife's Prius with the SE hybrid. Almost Prius mpg with more space, nice materials, and 0-60 under 7 seconds instead of around 10 The styling definitely has taken some getting used to, but now that I've seen it around the city a good bit, I'm a fan. Much better than the new Accord imo.

Clearly OP was wronged by a Camry owner, or in a older Camry.

Actually stumbled across the Q50S Hybrid near the end of my search. I almost pulled the trigger on a WRX or VW Golf GTI. Started off looking at Accord Sports and Mazda 6s. I was just looking in the 25K range in warranty that got about 30+ MPG highway (new or used didn't matter). I rent cars often for work so I have driven about every mid size out there. I test drove the WRX, Focus ST, and VW GTI. My Coworker had an Accord I rode to lunch in. I like the Accord and would have had a Sport if the seat went back a bit further. Of those I didn't rent or test drive I sat in at CarMax (Lexus, Audi, BMW, Cadillac, Volvo, Infinity...) Ended up in the Q50. That car is an amazing bargain, used. New is a bit of a big pill to swallow.
