Washington Post

quote:

President Trump on Monday said he is considering scaling back steps to constrain the spread of the coronavirus in the next week or two because of concerns that the impact on the economy has become too severe.

quote:

Trump said at a news conference Monday night that at some point soon the damage being done to the economy could be worse than the threat of the virus spreading further. He said the decision could be based geographically with areas of the country with a low number of positive cases moving back to a normal routine while areas such as New York remain under restrictions.

quote:

He said any decision would come when what the White House has dubbed “15 Days to Slow the Spread” ends March 30 and that the restrictions could continue for another week or more but not for months.

Yea the idea that people are latching to the notion that this has to last for months on end is amazing to me.

I saw a track coach on twitter say something about coaches “needing to accept the fact athletes won’t be competing for the next year” I never wanted to reach across a screen and punch someone harder in my life

People will still have to deal with the local restrictions though

Which for most people is probably more severe for the things in day to day life

Unfortunately, that could be a big problem for Louisiana. Louisiana has some of the fastest growing cases in the country.

That's in large part related to Mardi Gras. At least it's a step in the right direction.

Yep, he’s really taken the bull by the horns, surrounded himself with the experts and made all the right decisions to this point. To help curb the virus, he also said he was going to build 150 more miles of wall today...

He hasn't done anything during this. He laid everything at the Governor's feet and they have taken charge of this battle. Ohio's Governor started taking action back in late February. Trump's decision will not matter what state governor's do to protect their citizens.
He's just had pressers to congratulate himself and say a lot of words without actually saying anything. Like he always does.

Considering what many of these governors did is borderline unconstitutional, Trump could sue them back to being open for business.

At some point we have to stop living our lives in fear. Accept the fact that death eventually comes for us all. I for one don't want to cower in my home for the next 6-12 months while the economy collapses around my ears.

Does not compute. The guy is dumb as a post.
We are still in the early stages.

"The pandemic is accelerating," Tedros said. "It took 67 days from the first reported case to reach the first 100,000 cases, 11 days for the second 100,000 cases and just four days for the third 100,000 cases."

We don’t even know the extent because of limited testing. The states with low number of cases? How much do they contribute to the economy? Lift travel restrictions? See how quickly the virus spreads.

More than anything else it shows Trump’s ignorance. It’s probably hard for Trump to do simple arithmetic let alone the complex math of epidemiology.
