That would be insane if true

Probably too early for any high-quality battle damage assessment. Frankly, it is unlikely we ever know the exact extent of the damage unless there are inspectors on the ground and even that could take a very long time even if they had unfettered access.

I am cautiously optimistic but without stripping the entire mountain from the face of the Earth there is no way to tell right now.

No word about the Tom Cruise led airstrike that followed?

At least now we know who the fifth generation fighters were from.

So what happens if a us base in Kuwait or Syria gets nailed by an Iranian hypersonic missle?

You don't think we have assets airborne along with a vast network of ship and land based air defense? Or that personnel are hunkered down and ready in the event they start launching?

Sorry the US's shitty decisions to become a world power have come back home to roost, but this is the check we wrote.
Then don’t bitch about any government spending or foreign policy anymore.

We can’t change anything. We did things that led to where we are now, therefore we have to keep spending and doing.

But by all means, explain how this at all resembles Afghanistan

Let me throw it back to you: tell me one time in the past 70 years that an American installs a government and it works out well for American interests in the long term.

Hell, we are only dealing with this because of us trying it with Iran.

But to answer the question: lots of money and lives spent to really change nothing.

Wrong. Most of us are not about supporting any country’s citizens. End of story.

I don’t think this board grasps how weakened Iran is.

Since the October 2023 Hamas attack on Israel, the Israelis have basically brought Hamas and Hezbollah to their knees. Those are the 2 goon groups Iran uses for its dirty work. Iran’s proxies are a shell of what they were.

Israel’s success since 2023 made this a perfect time to end the Iranian nuke program

I think the question is whether Iran even can "do shite." Their proxies are neutered, they can lob ballistic missiles at US interests but we've had a couple of weeks of warning.

Where this gets dicey, IMO, is:

A) when Israel kills Khameini

B) if/when reports pop up that we didn't eliminate the threat and Iran is going to supply material to a rogue actor, etc. True or not, this is the type of pretense I could envision drawing us into a broader conflict.

The regime is still there. Khameini still alive. For now.

Crazy how it was our duty as a world super power and it was incredibly urgent and necessary but we didn’t hear or do shite about it until Israel beckoned

Well, too fricking bad.

The refugees won’t go to Russia or China.

They will go to Europe, Canada, or the USA.

Then, 6 months from now, we will have threads on here bitching about how those countries are being “overrun by Muslims”.

Or, and I hope this isn’t the case, we will fricking nation build again.

Yeah look, I'm pretty sober minded about Israeli influence, the risk of quagmire, all that stuff.

I'm not rah rah on this.

But this was THE TIME (if ever) to make this move, which the US has talked about for decades. Israel likely knew that it would have a strong chance to overcome US hesitancy if they crushed Iran's ability to broaden this conflict. I think that's what happened.

It handed Trump a legacy item on a silver platter with the best possible pitch for how this won't end up with typical Middle East blowback for US intervention. I think it was just too much for Trump to pass up, and I think, candidly it would be too much for any POTUS of either party to pass up.
