Accuweather may have jumped the shark with this storm. We will see, but this isn't a great look:

It’s labeled TD19, but now the models on Tropical Tidbits have it hitting Mexico and fizzling out. Any opinions from the experts?

The trend today has been towards more land interaction. If that's the case it should keep it weaker and put it farther west when it enters the Gulf. That puts it in a much more hostile environment, keeping it from consolidating and strengthening. Even on the 18z GFS its remnants get swept up by the front and pushed into FL. It would be subtropical at that point and just a rainmaker.

ETA: This will be a major inland flooding situation for Honduras, dumping 2ft.+ of rain on them.

Yep- I saw that guys video two days ago and he said definitely it was going to become a major hurricane and definitely threaten south Florida. Accuwesther loves to promote the sensational. As it looks now this system will be a big nothingburger for the US, or at most a big rainmaker. Central America could get signicant flooding for sure.

That’s pretty funny because I saw the weather report from the local weatherman in Nola and his comment was “I apologize in advance to Central America, but we need this to hit them as a TS at worse or we’re facing a major hurricane in SE LA”. Then showed the two scenarios

Wasn’t there a late system in 1990’s named Mitch that sat over Central America for a few days to week.

It was Mitch in 1998. It hung around one area for a week and dumped 75 inches of rain in some areas.

Lol, frick accuweather. Did he make that forecast off of one model run?

The only place I’ve ever interviewed and not gotten an offer. I was young and naive, wouldn’t have even taken an interview had I known what kind of chuds they are.

Florida could get hit with a Cat 2 Hurricane...in late November???

Has that ever happened in recorded history?

it’s very rare. I think Kate back in ‘85 was a cat 2 (100mph) that hit near Tally, and I think one other in recorded history. BUT it doesn’t look like this one will be a cat 2 or anything close to that from trends we’re seeing in the models.

They are now saying it comes in about 5miles south of Homosassa Springs, and will be 35 mph, with 45 gusts. I will take the rain, if true. We ae as dry as a popcorn fart.

Mitch is actually the second deadliest Atlantic hurricane on record. It killed over 11,000 people
