GFS operational shows that wave getting into the Gulf and trying to develop.

But it looks very weak. Like not even a named storm weak. Hopefully that continues.

My compressor is too old for a soft start, so now I'm in the market for a new one.

Take the intensity with a grain of salt. It could be just an open wave or much more stronger. The only thing this far out ensembles are good for is showing general idea where something might form.

Gulf is wide open unless the current pattern breaks down

Think the main take away for now is even if just an open wave or something else seems most operational runs want to take this pretty far west down the road.

Yep very rarely do you get a consensus 10+ days out of all the global models latching on to a wave.

I'm pretty sure Chad and Niger started it. It was just a cluster of thunderstorms at first.

That's actually not a terrible graphic for the first two weeks of August.

It should automatically update as NOAA updates it.

I think there is so much confusion about this. When a compressor starts it requires a lot of power to get going. So outside A/C units have a capacitor to build up charge and deliver it to the compressor upon start so it's not drawing too much power through your breaker box.

Starting with the capacitor is called a hard start. It starts the compressor and fan at the same time. You can replace the capacitor for about $20.

Or you can buy a soft starter like this and deliver the current to the fan motor and compressor in series. The problem is, this soft starter is almost $400.

It's not worth it IMO. Just replace the capacitor for $20 to see if you can get a year or two more out of your compressor. If you blow that, you probably might consider getting a new outside unit.
