Looks like its stalling off the coast for a day, so it's possible. Maybe not 20 but 15, 2-4 inches per hour on and off for 24 hours.
I don't want to compare this to a once-in-a-lifetime event like August 2016, but FWIW, this was the forecast two days before the rain started in August:
Lafayette got 20".
The point being, predicting heavy rainfall is much easier than predicting precisely how heavy and persistent that rainfall will be. If you end up underneath a band that trains for hours, you'll get the 13-14 inches that was supposed to be offshore.

While the WPS was cautious, the Euro had swide areas getting 20 inches by this point.

So what part of the state is going to get the worst (most rain) of this system as of now? Lafayette, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Slidell, Gulfport (Mississippi)?

This is the total rainfall forecast from the most recent GFS run, through 7 PM Friday evening.
It is one of many models, but it would suggest the main rain even will be on the eastern side of the state. 60 miles one way or the other could make a big difference.

The lake Barrier (aka lake pontchartrain) is going to pull the bad weather around New Orleans. It does it all week every week. The brunt of every storm goes north of Nola and the lake and hammers the north shore. LAKE BARRIER!

My girlfriend is driving from Baton Rouge to Gulf Shores tomorrow. What would be the best time for her to make that trip? Or is that a bad idea?
