Honestly, there's not much prepping to do for a rain event.

Drain your pools, clean your storm drains and get some sand bags. Other than that just stay off the roads unless you have to be out.

I'm about to leave NOlA and head to New Iberia for a meeting at 10. Then head back this afternoon.

I have read that draining the pool in advance is a bad idea as the water table changes with lots of rain and can cause some damage to the walls of the pool. This is my first year with an in ground pool. I was just going to pump out of it got too high. Any suggestions?

You are right. When the pool is empty the sides act like retaining walls. The weight of fully saturated soil puts a lot of extra pressure on the walls.

I didn't empty the pool, I just drained out a few inches. Not low enough to do any damage.

That's what I normally do for my in ground pool. If I know we are going to get pounded with rain, I usually drain it to the bottom of the skimmer. That gives me about 6-7" to the top edge. Then I just keep a close eye on it as the rain continues. If I see it getting close to the top (within 1-2"), then I drain again to mid skimmer level or slightly below that depending on how hard it's raining. Then I just repeat the process until it stops. From what I've read, it's OK to drain a foot so (maybe even more), you just don't want to drain too much because you want the weight of the water holding the pool down or else your pretty gunite pool can become a boat because of all the water soaking into the ground pushing it up.

Firing off some deeper convection near the "center" to start out today. About as healthy as it looked so far, but still fighting off a lot of shear.

NHC has been slowly nudging the path west, as have the models. The center looks like a good bet to hit the Texas coast. With it being so lopsided, means south La will get a healthy few days of intermittent rainfall.

Water vapor imaging shows a deep plume of moisture running from the Yucatan all the way up the east side of the system. It's pushing all of that toward the northern gulf.

As you can see by the windfiled shown, all the weather is on the east side of the storm. So while it's hitting somewhere in Texas, the north central gulf coast will get the rain and breeze.

I think the center of circulation reforms farther east on this thing. How the bands are coming in I don't see how it goes into lake chuck

Why in the world would you drain any water out of a pool for a rain "event"? I've had a pool fo 17 years and have drained one time due to re-plastering it.

Serious question, I have no idea, but why go through all that vs just letting it rain and overflow and after it stops adjust the water level?
