Idk about killing lions, but farm raised sounds like it’s not for the benefit of the species. Killing an infertile old male that was harming the breeding of younger males seems logical. This seems douchey.
I do know that people who kill elephants are big ole assholes. Elephants are the shite and smart AF.

This. In 1950 there were 250,000 lions on earth. Today that number is only 14,000.
Mostly due to poachers, which is where your anger should be directed.
And poaching efforts are now greatly reduced because local communities have a huge financial incentive to stop it because of the value of these trophy hunts (which, again, are culled hunts not just killing a random animal. They are chosen as needing to be removed for the health of the overall population).
The trophy hunting makes the animal, cost wise, worth saving for these improverished areas to keep the poachers out and increase the species. Without them, the animals would just be left on their own nd poachers will pick them off with ease

Punishment should fit the crime.

Hunting does more to promote conservation that anything else, and the locals benefit.

Farm raising lions to kill is fricking bullshite. If you want to donate money to saving lions, donate money. Don’t mask your insecure need to kill a fenced in and farm raised trophy as some great deed for the betterment of the world.
Eta:
Obviously a wild infertile lion that is harming the species is different

Elephants need to be culled as well. It wasn’t that long ago that South Africa was looking at culling up to 5,000 because the population in the parks were unsustainable. Elephants are large and trample and destroy habitats and change landscapes.
Culling also happens because certain sick animals have a disease that they need to remove before it spreads to others.

Within the farm, they are still going to pick and choose which animals to cull that season to protect the population.
And what’s your solution if the farm doesn’t have enough funds to operate from just donations? That’s the issue, is they don’t.
Whether you like it or not (and I’ve never hunted a day in my life), providing hunts is one of the most valuable ways to raise conservation funds and give a monetary reason to protect animals. That someone will pay $XX,000 to hunt an animal gives it direct value and makes it worth protecting and ensuring it breeds and the species doesn’t go extinct
Having just park service rangers working on local government salaries in these corrupt Aftrican shitholes doesnt protect the animals, that’s what lead to the poaching that put the populations in the danger they are in.

I’ve never been a hunter and not a particular big fan of guns but I know where the meat my family and I eat comes from and how the process works. With that said at the end of the day a human life is worth more than that of a lion, utter stupidity on both sides.

This is kinda what I was hoping for. Not gonna lie.

If every insecure hunter donated without killing they’d be fine. Why do they want to kill lions?
I don’t fault the locals. They’re doing what they have to do.
It really is amazing how these animals survived and thrived in Africa for a thousand years before these heroic hunters saved them by killing them.
ETA:
I understand douche bags get off on killing big game with powerful guns and that’ll never change.

There's a difference between a white tail deer and a bass, both of which are essentially innumerable in population and hunting them in your backyard and traveling to fricking Africa to hunt a lion to impress people. If you're not eating it, you probably shouldn't hunt it.
Not a big game hunter here, but you morons do realize that big game trophy hunters provide most of the money for animal conservation in Africa, right?

Fixed it for you.
Again hunters are not the ones threatening these animals. Poachers are.

Never argued otherwise.
I just wish the world was a place where these “hunters” would just donate the money without killing lions. But I get that will never be the case because 99% of them don’t give AF about saving lions, they’re just rich and want to kill something big.
They’re still douche bags.

I agree with you there, never got the appeal.
But having someone pay to cull an animal rather than a Park Services ranger just put them down anyway is an easy and efficient way to raise funds.

I’m fine with baw getting shot. Deer, ducks, etc are one thing but a trophy means you’re a fricking douche-chode with some sort of inner inferiority complex... Usually low IQ types...
Low IQ types? Like people who speak out of ignorance? Zimbabwe, Zambia, Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique, Tanzania, etc., heavily advertise and cater to trophy hunters for several reasons. First, a single trophy license alone can generate more desperately needed revenue that several dozen tourists will bring them during an entire vacation. It brings in nearly a billion dollars yearly to some poverty stricken, depressed countries. The hunters can be required to leave the meat which feeds native citizens who would otherwise have to hunt and kill the animals themselves. Impala, buffalo, elephant, sable, lion, and other large game is eaten by people there...from poor to royalty.
I do not want to see mindless killing of any animal but I feel it's best to check my own IQ before saying stupid things about the ways of cultures that I may not understand. I do not pretend to know that other injustices do not occur but I'd want to be very sure of what I'm speaking of before advocating the murder of people in situations I'm not certain about.

Look man, I don't like trophy hunting either, but not everyone has the same values. It's not my place to preach. I guided bear hunts for a while and got sick of trophy hunters.
However their value to conservation efforts cannot be denied. Donated money goes to corrupt people
