Are you kidding me? Cox's receiver tech is from the 80s. Sure, they've got some new stuff out there but they don't really want to give it to you. DirecTV's Genies and wireless genies are the shite. Can control everything from my iphone and never worry about space constraints.

I did this with Direct TV last week but I was really calling to cancel not to try to lower my bill. She gave me a few offers to lower my bill.

This was a consideration for me a few months ago, but we don't get AT&T Uverse where I live, and dealing with a 3rd party internet provider according to what all I read wasn't satisfactory to 3/4 of the people who were forced that way. So I stayed with Cox. They do have the best internet that is available to me.

Is directv + cox Internet cheaper than cox cable w/ Internet?

Fill out the customer satifaction survey after a call to customer service where you will likely get nothing accomplished. Tell them how bad you want to leave them and mark the worst scores for everything. A customer relations rep will call you and they will be putty in your hands. Let me know how it goes.

Call to cancel service. Don't bring up cost, just say you want to cancel service. They will start making offers when they think you are serious. If they don't cut your bill, switch to satellite or uverse. It is worth about $1000 a year to make the switch.

Yes and in the end you have a much better TV provider.

Semi-Pro Jackie Moon style.
Tell them you want your bill lowered. If they respond in any way that isn't beneficial to you, yell "suck my cock ill murder your family". Should get the job done.

Just switch to DirecTV...you won't regret it.

Sometimes it's easier to just swallow than to try to spit it all out

No I'm not. The only thing you mentioned that I care about is space constraints and honestly that's not a big deal.
I spent the last week on vacation and the condo had satellite service. I was less than impressed. Maybe it was the package that was purchased but the list of available HD channels was shite. I had to watch sports on SD channels. Xfinity gives you every major channel and any channel worth watching in HD in their standard package. As far as the wifi it worked fine indoors. When you walked out on the balcony it dropped to 1 bar.
Honestly there wasn't 1 thing I was impressed with.

You're bringing up Xfinity in a Cox thread, they're probably significantly better than cox to begin with.
I haven't watched SD TV in years.
Cox's menu and TV listing was in SD with BS adverts on them.
I can watch DVR stuff all over the house. Remote control is awesome and works via Bluetooth so you don't even have to point it at the TV so you can hide the box. All of the boxes are incredibly small and/or wireless so you can get rid of the clutter.

I don't know what DirecTV has to do with WiFi.
As much as I hate Cox, I still have them for internet.

I work for Cox. The best way to do it is just do some research on Dish or DTV, give Cox a call and tell them the promo they have out there for Dish/DTV. Tell them you're willing to switch if they don't lower the price. Hang up the phone if they're not willing to bulge. They will call you back immediately with $20 off

True story:
I canceled my cable back in February but kept my Internet service. For the past four months I have paid solely for the Internet service but have still retained my cable service despite my monthly bill not reflecting it.

quote:Mine is. I paid more for cable with only one HD receiver than I'm now paying for satellite with HD and DVRs in every room. It's a 2-year promotional offer but when it's done it will still be way cheaper than Cox with HD and DVRs in every room.

ETA: Much happier with the quality of DirecTV as well. If anyone is planning on switching let me know. I'll give you my account number and we'll both knock $10 of our monthly bill.

I did this approximately 4-6 months ago. They lowered my bill after going back and forth to around $160/month. Cable and internet all included. Upgraded me to the new equipment and everything.
Now the bill has steadily risen to about $200/mo all over again.

Really any of the NSAIDs like ibuprofen or naproxen will take care of cox.

I am thinking about doing this right now. Purchasing a house. Have heard similar stories about Cox continuously raising prices. I think they are the best in my area for internet so I will probably have to get them for that. But for tv, I prefer directv.

Anybody with experience dealing with Cox and trying to get their bill down.
Nope. Was with them for 3 or 4 years, ended up cancelling everything but internet. Had 1 HD DVR box, the sports package, and internet, and the bill was around $185. The operator I talked to said "Oh well I can reduce your bill by $20 per month since you have been loyal customer, but thats unfortunately the best I can do." I replied "Well unfortunately for you, UVerse is offering a package at $79 per month for a 1 year agreement, plus $300 in giftcards, and it includes everything I was paying $185 through you all. Please cancel my service." Been away 6 months with no regrets. Will probably go with UVerse come closer to football season.
ETA: Upon informing them of the UVerse offer, they tried to throw in free movie channels and sports packages, but bottom line monthly charge was still around $140-150. Told them to kick rocks at that price.
