Trendy diagnosis

Got into an argument with the lovely Mrs. For the last 6-8 months on a weekly basis she breaks out into these huge angry red hives. I mean face, back, legs, everywhere. She went to the allergist who sent her to an endocrinologist who sent her back to an allergy specialist. She was weened off just about every food with no luck. Long story longer they say Celiac. However, she is gluten free for a little over a month and the hives keep coming. I said "they" got lazy and just went with a trendy diagnosis because they couldn't narrow it down. Then went on to explain my theory.
Trendy easy diagnosises started with Fibromyalgia. Then Chronic Fatigue. Then a wonky thyroid. Now Celiac. Am I right? And while I'm at it, why is it that seemingly only middle class white women have these ailments?

I knew a woman who was allergic to something in her husband’s semen. At least she isn’t giving you that excuse?

She sounds like a pain in the arse. Get a side piece

Sounds like your skank has herpes simplex 10 and her doctor doesn’t want to destroy your hope for upward mobility.

I love how you never hear about peanut allergies, celiac disease or gluten free diets in poor countries.
It is a fairly modern phenomenon, and I believe a product of our society.
Give your kids peanut butter at around 1 year old.
Let them skip a bath every now and then.
Forget to wash their hands before dinner on purpose.
Let them play outside all day, don't bother yourself with what they get into too much.

Now that is a trendy thought progression to fire back with...

She has chronic urticaria. Same thing happened to my wife. It will either go away on its own or it will not.
Their is a specialist in South Carolina that deals with this condition and was of some help to us.
Steroids epipens and high doses of antihistamines are in her future until it eventually goes away on its own.
Good luck

I dont think Thyroid problems are in line with fibromyalgie and celiac, but I'm 100% in agreement on the the latter two. The thyroid is an actual gland that regulates hormones, so not like its just pulled out of thin air. Celiac, while an actual disease, is exceptionally rare and people are on the GF train to be trendy. I hate people like that.

I agree with you about the first two.

Is she taking Benicar for high blood pressure? It will cause symptoms that are mistaken for celiac.

When I read hives, my first diagnosis was lupus.

Sounds like bed bugs.

This is a little different than your other diseases listed. They do actual blood work to test your thyroid levels, it's not like they just say you have a thyroid issue with no back up evidence.

Lime disease maybe

Agreed on this one. It just seems that about 5-10 years ago there were a significant number of women who had there thyroids "killed" and had to start a costly hormone replacement therapy. Again it just seemed like the Docs were taking the easy, trendy diagnosis. Maybe it's just perception.

Oh I don't know about all this. Maybe that part was trendy. Maybe they came out with some trendy new medication 5 or so years ago.
I have an underactive thyroid and just have to take a cheap ($7 per month) prescription pill once a morning. Routine blood work every 6 months to make sure my TSH levels are still normal and that's it. Last time the appointment and blood work cost me $5, so nothing expensive.

Go get her some Claritin. Take it once per day. About 20 years ago I was breaking out in hives. I did all of the allergy tests and they couldn’t find the reason. Finally they said it was stress related and to start taking a Claritin daily. After a couple of days it was cleared up.
