Flying for the first time with a 2 and 1 year old on Southwest. Non-Stop.

I have become what I always hated when I traveled a ton. That family. I hope to do my best not to impact the travel experience of others.

Just the preparation to get to the gate seems like this will be a chore. My wife is talking about using car seats on the plane. I haven't looked into it much.

Prayers please. I'll take any advice from travel family pros.

Just buy the extra seat - don’t try to have a toddler on the lap

I like to print out my boarding passes but you can also save them all in your wallet on your phone. Going through security is always a little hectic, don’t care if you have clear or what not. At that age I would have an iPad and snacks, lots of snacks

I spent the money to buy 4 seats. My kids need to be buckled down somehow.

I have two teenagers now but my girls started flying at 6 months. They are 2 years apart so we did what you’re about to do a bunch.

My best piece of advice? Don’t worry about anyone around you. Kids are a crapshoot on a plane. We’ve had trips where neither of them made a peep. Others where one was screaming bloody murder for 2 hours. One thing that helped is we started trying to book flight around nap time. For our girls their normal time was 2pm. Most of our flights with babies resulted in slumber silence.

Bring car seats on the plane to keep them restrained and help them nap. I've flown a million times with my kids and when they were 3 and under it worked great. Buy cheap, lightweight cosco ones from Walmart if you don't want to lug your normal ones onto the plane.

Go through security pre-check.

Lots of snacks.

A new toy or two wrapped kills 30 minutes on the plane.

If bring car seats get bags for them with wheels.

Lower your expectations and don’t sweat. Turns out most of the world has been in your shoes before and understands.

Better take precautions against motion sickness…a couple of good doses off Dramamine should make everybody more comfortable

I didn't and my toddler did fine. Not everyone is wealthy as OT and can afford an extra seat.

Ship them UPS to your hotel to be delivered on your arrival date. Make sure to use heat or cold packs depending on the season and your destination.

The best thing you can do for your fellow air travelers is to go to Enterprise and rent a car for you and your family.
