Clamshells were used because they were readily available due to dredging from Point au Fer to the Shell Keys. Massive reefs. Also Lake Ponchatrain was heavily dredged.
I was always told that clamshells didn’t sink so fast. Oysters are the best. But any weight down here sinks.
They have to buy limestone from the Yankee’s now.

I know how plentiful they have been for centuries/millennia. I live in South Lafourche and you cannot dig a hole without encountering several clamshells as you dig. That were put there for construction or an ancient sea bed of clamshells that formed in the delta days.
My dad used to work on tugs that would load up on shells in the lake. He told me if they ever stopped dredging for clamshells that eventually Lake Ponchatrain would get so shallow you could walk across most of it. It still hasn’t happened yet, but geologically we are just moment in time.

Well the Louisiana Legislature has been controlled by the Republicans for over 20 years. Perhaps you should inquire why the roads continue to suck.

Oh btw 3132 in Shreveport can catch that smoke too, how in the hell a major city allows roads to deteriorate to the conditions they are currently in is beside me.
Generally speaking, most roads in North Louisiana are much better than South Louisiana, but the loop in Shreveport is freaking horrible

from Lafayette to Houma are awful
There’s an overpass on 90 south around Jenarette that is so phenomenally bad, I’ve heard of delivery trucks losing their cargo traversing it. That entire stretch from around Broussard to Gibson is an utter shite show.

Who were the governors since 2000? Besides Jindal.

We don’t have hard clay under our roads.
The clay in NTX is highly expansive, it shrinks and swells, which causes heave of roads and building slabs. Surface roads in NTX are pretty crappy due to the expansive clays, the highways are good because most of them have been rebuilt over the last few years.

They were all Democrats at some point in their life except for Jindal. Including some of the chameleon Republicans like Mike Foster and Buddy Roemer who changed party while in office or get elected in an election year. And if you look far enough back, even David Treen was a Democrat before 1962.

I-55 when you cross over in to Mississippi. I saw about 3 mufflers that had been shaken off before I got to McComb.

Gibson is an utter shite show.
I heard a random folklore tale about the construction of US90 in Gibson, when they were driving pilings for one of the many bridges that one push was all that was needed on some pilings, instead of the many hits it normally takes to get a pile in place. The one who told me this even said they lost a piling as it just sank all the way down into mud with just gravity and weight.
Another story is that some baws that were cutting the rebar on the bridge could only cut so much rebar with one blade. Instead of throwing the blades in a proper disposal area, the threw the blades from the bridge into the woods, you can still see some the blades in the trees. I may have heard that story here.

Welcome to LA! So much entitlement leave no money to fix the roads.

One of our construction crews caused that damage the day it was poured
I always thought it seemed that a vehicle drove over the wet concrete but figured that was impossible.
Guess it was possible. Thanks for the story.

I am in DFW right now. I traveled from Florida and I was amazed at how terrible the roads were in Louisiana. I travel to Mississippi a lot for work and thought nothing could top how shitty their roads are. I used to live near Fort Worth and I didn’t remember the roads being that bad when I go home to see family. The roads in Shreveport are unbelievably bad.

Should've taken I-10 over through Orange. Make you appreciate a well run construction project.
