So you're just defending handing out money to people for the fun of it?

Did that happen in this case?
Or did the person follow the law and received the benefit?
Ugly truth, if you went to college in the past 100 years, you got a subsidized college degree.
It is amazing to me how people cannot see that in the past higher education was funded by states at a much higher level than today. There is no difference from paying artificially reduced tuition because state funding was much higher in the 70s,80s, and 90s. Versus, universities have lost state funding there has been higher tuition costs. Cost of degrees go up but get subsidized in a different manner by the fed. Now instead of state subsidized degrees, now there are federally subsidized degrees.
So basically a bunch of people that got subsidized educations are complaining about a new generation receiving the same benefit.

This is an absolute slap in the face to all the people who actually had to pay their loans back. My generation is filled with some of the laziest, most self-absorbed, virtue signaling douchebags this country has seen in a long time. Gen Z is lost in every sense of the word. Most of them don’t even want to work real jobs and want to be TikTok personalities, Instagram models, YouTube vloggers, etc.

It’s not for the fun of it, dumbass. They followed the criteria and worked in the public sector as a trade off.

I guess you are expecting your home or car loan to be forgiven next.

of “it will encourage people into public service/government jobs that are lower paying.” So, this is actually an appropriate plan to pay off loans made at the time of taking them out in many cases.
Then it should be subject to detailed review of their earnings compared to those that could be earned in the private sector for a similar job and the forgiveness should be capped at that difference.
That’s if we should have such a program at all.

But some folks paid what they borrowed. The other folks aren't knowing full well they agreed to when they asked for said loan.

Is this really an example of socialism?
Don’t you love socialism when states give incentives for business to locate there? What about when the state/feds kick in money to rebuild your city after a hurricane?

Except this is completely incorrect.

Generally curious how so. Loan means loaned and pay back, right?

The state doesn't kick in shite because the state is broke. The feds didn't give LC crap for several years after the last two and LC still did OK so I would be fine with it all going away.
FYI, the money LC did get after Laura and Delta is a drop in the bucket considering the damage that was done here and again LC is recovering just fine. The mayor has done a good job working through it all without the help of Kennedy or Clay Higgins.

Again, this is a very simplistic view of the issue. Those people that received state sub college educations took zero risk to get their education and move forward in life.
The way it is today, you take substantial risk without the ability dissolve a student loan via bankruptcy if needed. So, if a degree cost 60k under each different funding models, why should the student of today have more risk than the student of the last generation?

But they didn't ask for to be loaned money.

Again, I see your argument here, but if you agreed to risk when you requested the loan, then it's on them.
I know different, but I agreed to my shitty mortgage 2 years ago when I bought my house and I pay my note monthly

The option to go PSLF and work in public service for ten years in exchange for some amount of their loans being forgiven was in place when they took on the loan.
The loan they asked for came with several different payback options. One option was to work public service and have some of the loan wiped out after 10 years.
They took that option.

I would assume you would be in favor of incentives for businesses to come to Louisiana. Are you not?
Are you in favor of the subsidies the nuke plants powering south Louisiana get? Or should we not incentivize nuclear power?

No not really and if so it depends on the business. Am I in favor of tax credits for the film industry like we used to have? No. Nuclear power is a utility and a bit of a different animal.

I suppose I really shouldn't be surprised to see the exact same ignorant arguments being made and responded to on nearly every page of this thread, but somehow I still am ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)
