horseshite. My kid plays travel soccer. There is a noticeable and obvious difference between travel baseball parents and travel soccer parents.
you must be around AA parents then. thing is there are huge differences in travel baseball. AA is nothing like majors ball and the parents usually are nothign alike.
of my neighbors on my street...2 have kids in travel soccer and 2 have kids in travel baseball....pretty much same type of people and families
i mean pretty much exactly the same types of families.

so your nephew went and played in a very low level aa tournament, prolly USSSA or OTC bullshite and now you think thats how travel ball is right?
how about this....next year when PG is having the Super NIT in BR or 2D is hosting a huge Select Series tournament you go out and watch the majors division in the PG event or the SS event and come back and tell us if you still have the same opinion.
in other words your little experience with your nephew is not close to how 99% of travel teams are in this state especially once you get to AAA and majors ball.
I know there are different levels. I don't know anything about it, but I am pretty sure he is playing at the lowest level.
I don't have a problem with top divisions that have coaches who know what they are doing and its actually competitive, its all the lower level bullshite. Thats more of a money grab than anything because those kids are not being coached.. And my point is about the rings... There are tournaments every weekend giving out rings for first and second place, its just too much.

you realize when talking travel ball, 99% of the time that is not what we are talking about right?

I didn’t realize that it was that competitive to make a high school team, or that lack of participation in travel ball excluded one from making a team. Sounds like a raw deal for the talented kids that come from families unable to afford the lifestyle that comes with travel ball.
All depends on where you live. If you live in a nice, upscale, suburban area with a 4000 student high school, well every single thing they can do in HS is extremely competitive. I mean there can only be so many kids on a baseball team, basketball team, swim team, volleyball team, cheer or dance squad, drama team, etc. For just about every team (other than football) you're talking about only 1-2% of the males or females (available students) making that team. You can probably afford it if you live in these areas.

Your responses in this thread seem to suggest that making the HS baseball team is the most important thing in life and if your putting a sizable portion of your disposable income in travel ball in the hopes of making the HS team, your spending habits suggest it is of most importance
Different sport, but I've said many times that this isn't the reason why you spend that money. You do it because your kid loves it and you can afford it. You do it because regardless of what many people think, those high level athletes are generally many of the best kids on campus. You think about the football or basketball player that gets in trouble, barely passes, gets everything handed to them. That's the minority in high level children's athletics. Most of them are the hardest workers you'll find at their age. They have learned the best time management skills. They make good (often great) grades. For the most part, they are just high achievers and some of that is from what they learned in their sport. How to give all...how to not quit...how to wait for delayed gratification...be a team player, etc. The list is long and those are all life lessons that are worth more than any amount of money you could possibly spend on them.

used to think the travel ball world series was for the best travel ball teams. Then I learned all you gotta do is pay some money to attend.
This. Travel is just rec ball with expensive arse travel involved and tournament organizers getting paid.
These parents are so eat up with the dumb and the “oh noz travel ball is must to play in high school” they don’t realize it.
Hey, I got an idea. Everyone just practice a couple times per week and play on Saturdays at the local park in a league run by the city rec department for essentially FREE.
Nope. Braxxtyn’s dad and the tourney organizers can’t grift off the parents if you do it that way.
I’m sorry. But you travel ball people are deluded into participating in a multi-level marketing cult and you don’t even know it. There needs to be some kind of 12 step program for this shite.

what expensive arse travel? in louisiana you can play in a tournament every weekend pretty much without traveling more than 90min. so what expensive arse travel?
and you can believe what you want as far as making a HS team, but good luck with your idea.
and local rec leagues suck. if you havent been around one in years... you have no clue.

Believe it or not, this is how travel ball started, but there are numerous issues with this:
1. It's not free. Those city rec departments rely on registration fees for their own rec leagues and will not allow you to use the park without paying something.
2. Insurance. Sadly, we live in a very litigious society, and even if the city rec department did allow you to use their facilities for free, when little Johnny gets hurt and his parents sue the city, that will put an end to that. The travel ball organizations have insurance and require each team to carry insurance.
3. Talent level. Unless you are in a major metropolitan area (Houston, Dallas, Atlanta), there aren't enough other teams to simply play local games against other local teams. Teams often do scrimmage each other, but playing the same 4-5 teams in your area/age group/class would get very boring.

I failed. He has none unless you count the 20 min practice he has once a week.
Clearly I have ruined his baseball career already.

I have 2 and one on the way. I take them camping/fishing and we play weekday rec ball. Works out great.
What a fricking loser spending all that money on camping and fishing. Especially if the kids love camping and fishing.
By no means are hunting/fishing/camping companies not out to separate parents from their money by opening stores in outlet malls. Or Bass Pro Shops or anything of the sort.
