Its actually illegal to have it on if you're not towing anything and increases the force of an rear end collision.

Got rear-ended by a lady in a mustang a few years ago while sitting at a red light when her ‘brakes went out’.

My truck = not a scratch. Her car = Trailer hitch sized hole thru her bumper.

Since then I never take mine out, so

Happened twice to me, hitch always stays in. Just a damn knee buster at times if I'm walking around the back of the car not paying attention.

Truck nuts dont obstruct the plate because they hang low.

I used to leave mine on until the day my wife hit her shin on it and had to get three stitches.

The main reason is if you get rear ended it will save your vehicle and destroy the one that hits you

Exactly the reason I put a front mount hitch on my Ford. Need to protect the front bumper if I rear end anyone.

I like to leave mine on and back into parking spaces where my hitch overhangs a sidewalk. Then I sit inside and wait for hilarity.

Either you’re lying or you have some really bad luck when it comes to people driving behind you.
