Got an 07 Acura TL that the dash codes tell me is in need of an oil change and a transmission fluid flush/ replacement (Code A13). What kind of prices am I looking at with a decent, honest mechanic?

If in Baton Rouge, $318.18 (materials, labor, etc.) + 10 % tax rate = $350.00

Make sure you get the valve cover gaskets changed too! 9 year old car needs new valve cover gaskets!

Drop the pan. I wouldn't flush trans at 9 years, unless its been flushed at regular intervals. Make sure the pan crud gets cleaned and new gasket replaced.

Stay away from flushes. I would just drain and refill. No need to drop the trans pan. Where are you located?

Oil change is pretty normal.

My FIL is a mechanic and he says not only are transmission flushes "a racket", they can also be dangerous to you car if not done regularly and properly. He has always recommended a drain and fill, but not a flush.

Most cars don't have a tran drain plug, hence dropping the pan, unless you disconnect from the trans cooler and pump it out. But you won't be getting the pan crud, just replacing the fluid. You can save some money and do yourself. Youtube is your friend.

Your FIL is correct.

To the OP, change your own oil. You can buy a higher quality oil, monitor your engine's health, and spend less $$$.

Let an express drain and fill the transmission fluid. It is a messy hassle.

Pretty sure the '07 TL has a plug. My '05 did...since they are both Gen3, I would assume the transmission didn't change from one to the other..

well, its got a drain plug. OP needs to just drain it and fill it back up with Acura or Honda tranny fluid(they're the same)

He did specify which car and it does have a drain/fill. I've done it before on my old 08 TL.
