I think many have. And that's why Ascension Parish continues to grow at an alarming rate.

But don't they also need a vote from the state legislature to start their own school district?

too fast gonna be like the LP soon. I don't blame people for moving out that way though. I went the other direction though. Don't see that area changing for awhile.

See, I don't agree with that at all.

BR as a city with LSU, Downtown, parts of the Mall, etc. and many thriving, prosperous neighborhoods should be fine.

Parishwide taxes support BREC, the Libraries, EMS, Sewer System, the Sheriff, Mosquitto control, and other services.

There is no reason to believe BR would fail with good leadership. I think all of this is to scare people, and to keep control and power over the schools and special projects that city leaders want.

People point to NBR, but its crumbling now under the current system. Why does anyone believe that is going to stop or change if St. George is created?

Mayor Broome is from NBR. Mayor Holden was from NBR. Mayor Simpson was from Baker and the Mayor before him, was Tom Ed Mc Hugh from Baker too. The last SBR mayor was Pat Screen in 1988 which was 29 years ago.

What has held NBR down? You can't say its been the mayor, right?

I agree. Our roads in AP are being pushed to the limit. As long as our schools continue to stay or improve upon where they are, AP will be fine for many years to come.

They already are, the growth rate in BR has declined, the growth rate in EBR has slowed down and the neighboring parishes are busting out at the seems.

SG and a SG school district would be one strategy to arrest the trend and increase growth in the parish, but the city leaders won't permit that.

A school district is completely different from a municipality.

In fact the legislature has control over whether or not a school district can be formed. SG leaders were told to form a city first and then come back and see us. That's what got the city movement started.

Reality is a lot of SG residents like myself would be happy with our own ISD, the city was not the main goal; however, with all the recent problems and the city hall shenanigans I'm wondering if a city might not be better in the long run.

Hopefully there are enough good lawyers that are pro St. George to at least call the mayor and her minions on her bull shite.

I still don't know how I feel about this movement. On one side, my parents live in Broadmoor and would be thoroughly fricked if St. George is established.

On the other hand, my family will probably move them out the area in 10-15 years anyways.

Plus the city made/is making its bed by alienating the tax paying base. It's time for them to face the consequences.

My family home was near Broadmoor.

How do you feel about Broadmoor right now? Are you happy with the current situation? How many kids live in Broadmoor go to Broadmoor schools as they once did? The elementary schools were packed, there were two junior highs in the area and of course a good high school.

Are things relatively safe? Do your parents worry more now about crime? Would they have to worry more if SG passed, or would they worry BRPD which is headquartered a block away could not take care of them?

It's a shame the elderly have to think about these things. We heard from Kip[ Holden how BR was booming. Downtown was thriving. We were building all this infrastructure to support growth. Parks, libraries, and other projects were being done to facilitate all this.

Would the creation of St. George stop all that? It shouldn't, but the people at city hall want you to think that.

Um...

The "real taxpayers" of the city of BR don't live in BR city?

Where do you people come up with this shite?

SG will still pay the same parish taxes they do now, but will also have to pay new taxes to SG that they don't pay now.

Basically, they will be voting in a tax increase for themselves by doing this, and still won't have a school district of their own.

Sure they do and there are plenty of them.

I don't know, its crazy talk, BR has a big tax base.

Please explain because I know citizens of BR currently do not pay sales tax to EBR parish and to the City of BR. They pay just to BR. Property taxes are also determined by where you live and there is no parish wide property tax that a taxpayer pays and then pays the same property tax to BR or another city in the parish.

I don't understand where you are coming from here.
No one pays the same taxes twice. Baton Rougeans (city) don't pay sales tax to the city and to the parish. Property taxes are paid one time to the appropriate taxing district too.

Yes, schools are entirely, but linked issue and you can have a city and not get the school district.

No one has mentioned that the transition documents also fail to mention police, fire and ems.

That's the point I'm trying to get at. As I understand it, the main goal of SG was always to have an ISD. But that is ultimately in the hands of the state legislature which is an entity we all know has a history of corruption since day 1. That, to me, would be the biggest hurdle of all.

These services would remain the same as they are now if St. George passes. The area already has police (sheriff), fire department and EMS.

And I understand your point completely.

Legislators including Sharon Broome said without a municipality St. George wouldn't get the votes to form their own school district, but you and I know that even if a municipality is formed the legislature and the governor could still block a new ISD.

And we aren't talking about a 50% vote, I think it takes 2/3s of both houses and while SG was close in 2013 they weren't there.

The really fricked up part about it is that Gravy and crew want the state legislature to create laws that specifically block the routes for SG but those laws will apply to every other area of LA in the future. That shows you the lengths these scumbags will go to in order to protect their gold mine.

Did Central have to get the legislature's approval when it formed its own city?
