When Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome celebrated the release of her transition team's report Wednesday, two of the committees’ suggestions were not included — an alternate take on St. George incorporation and whether to explore installing a city manager.

I wonder why?

quote:

The other document left out of the public report concerned future attempts to incorporate St. George. The proposed city is discussed in the existing report through a lengthy discussion of race relations and segregation. The missing report arrives at the same conclusion — that St. George should be defeated — and recommends many of the same avenues for doing so, explained co-chair Mary Olive Pierson.

Those following the recently defeated St. George petition efforts should remember that Mary Olive spearheaded the legal efforts to defeat the petition. Now it seems she's advising the new mayor.

quote:

Slaughter and her co-chair Dennis Blunt both said they thought the omission was a genuine mistake. Raymond Jetson, one of the leaders of the entire transition team said they had not intended to hold back any reports, and that some documents were missing due to "human error."

"Human error"??????

I'm curious as to what they didn't want us to know. There shouldn't be any reason not to release the entire report, right? There may very well be nothing to see; however, this is La. right?

BR is on a one way road to doom whether it falls apart bc of St. George coming to fruition or BR just staying BR and it just crumbles under its own incompetence. It's going to happen either way.

You'll be hearing and seeing a lot about it when it passes the next available time.

U guys are fricked in BR

I've seen incompetent black/White/hispanic leadership before and it's effect on a city, and this has the same smell, but with a worse stink.

Lawyers in the area need to make sure and study the laws in La, to keep these fools in check. It's clear, she has an agenda she didn't make obvious when the Liberal whites voted for her.

That group has no intention of compromising on a St. George "solution". In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if we see more areas of SG be proposed for annexation by the end of the year.

Tell that to the Mayor, and her transition team.

They are the ones discussing how racists things are and how we have to stop St. George.

Have you seen anything from St. George leadership? All I've seen is how bad St. George people are and how bad St. George would be for everybody.

Again, what are these people afraid of?

To become a municipality as things now stand, A certain percentage of registered voters in the proposed area have to petition to form a municipality. If enough signatures are gained then an election is held and only the registered voters in the proposed area can vote. If 50% +1 of those voters vote for the new city then a new city can be created.

However, there is a serious movement to write legislation that changes the law so that only in EBR Parish do the other parish citizens get to vote on the matter. In other words people in the proposed SG area wouldn't have the right to incorporate without the permission of the rest of the voters in the parish.

They know that if SG forms, BR goes to shite.
All the real taxpayers in the city will live in SG and the one's remaining in BR will move to SG.
All the new businesses and developments will be in SG
BR will basically turn into lower Baker

SG leadership needs to be wise. Tailor down the size of the SG proposed city limits. Get this thing through ASAP to get ahead of new proposed legislation.

This is why Lawyers for the Pro SG side have to be 100% sure of what the Mayor can or cannot do. Mayor and her crew will try shite that is in no way legal.
