At least they played some music for us while we found out what was up the the helicopter.
That was actually that woman's second time to crash in a news helicopter.
She died this time.

I knew the technical reasons for the air france crash but never read the transcripts. Holy hell what a bunch of morons.
The one guy who was pulling back on the stick the whole time was the biggest culprit, and the least experienced of the three.
I've read up on this crash quite a bit and the pilots definitely were getting crazy info back from the airplane.
The most insidious part was when the pilot would push forward the stick and lower the nose (the right thing) the stall warning would come back on because the aircrafts computer was in a "I give up" mode and shut off all the warnings.
So, with the exception of an ice clogged airspeed sensor they flew a perfectly good airplane into the ocean.

Just curious, do the passengers on the Air France crash know what's going on? If the pilots don't know if they are going up or down, do the passengers since or feel something isn't right?

I've read and listened to some of the 9/11 recordings. Do pilots nowadays keep cockpit locked because of that? Do yall think people could still hijack a plane in America or are we on to high alert and the moment some Muslims run up front would all the passengers grab them before they even got to the pilots?
Eta: Also, if pilots were overcome and killed but passengers overtook hijackers is it even possible for average Joe to land a plane with help of air traffic controllers?

There's some articles about that out there. Most say the plane would have been shuddering pretty badly due to being in an aerodynamic stall. There was some pretty bad turbulence also. The recorders showed some evidence of the plane rolling left and right as it fell in the stall.
Most articles do say there was probably not a sensation of falling but it is likely they would know something was wrong and it was not a good situation.
Some say the plane held up amazingly well in the air as those same maneuvers could tear apart other aircraft.

He had been in beyond a rut that he had been digging himself into for a better part of 20 years... He went from being a free-spirited partying traveling musician to a very stationary partying bartender lifer. Alcohol and who knows what reached critical mass... Sometimes there's no real reason for not getting someewhere. 3rd time in rehab finally took. He booked the flight on the 1-year anniversary of getting sober.

You're the idiot, fricktard. What part of my post made you think you should even comment on the situation.

It said the guy was pulling in the stick the whole time. I thought it was because in these modern planes if you pull in the stick you will stay in a climb but the stick will move back to center.

I've been watching "Air Crash investigations" on youtube.
Alot of these flights are on there, pretty interesting stuff.

Not sure if this was on the list, but that Turkish airliner that blew a hole and sucked the flight attendant out must've been horrific.

"Retard" means "pull the throttles back to idle." Retard and advance are two fancy ways of saying pull the throttles back and push them forwards, respectively.

The aircrafts computer had already "given up" and gave full control back to the pilots (Alternate law on an Airbus) based on the faulty sensor data from the clogged pitot tube.
What's crazy is the right hand pilot was pulling up most of the time even though the left hand pilot was trying to push down some of the time. I think the Airbus "averages" the inputs from both controls if that happens.
Based on the transcript it appears the senior pilot figured it out toward the end but by then it was too late.
It's still hard to believe they didn't believe the altimeter as they were dropping like a stone. But then again I think they were in a situation where they didn't know what to believe from the planes instruments.

That Phoenix news helicopter crash in 2007 was some scary shite, especially since the one chopper was live on air when it crashed and you can hear the crew screaming to their death. Someone actually made a simulation of what happened. I'm sure this changed the rules, at least unwritten ones about high speed chases being shot live on TV.
