Tragic turn: Monroe officer shot self before wreck

Sad story all around , especially for his wife and kids.
The Monroe Police officer who died on duty early Sunday morning apparently shot himself before crashing his patrol car.
Ouachita Parish Sheriff Jay Russell, whose department is investigating the cause of death, declined to comment but said a preliminary autopsy report could be ready as soon as today.
Officer Chris Beaudion was pronounced dead on the scene following the wreck off of Winnsboro Road. His patrol car struck a tree.
It's unclear whether Beaudion shot himself accidentally while driving or committed suicide.

That’s sad but I am confused how it could be accidental. Playing with your pistol while driving down the road seems pretty unlikely.

If i was investigating I would absolutely rule it was an accidental discharge of his weapon.
To save his family from years of torment. Someone I know had a parent who shot themselves and it has been an albatross for their entire life. Ever present. Ever hanging. Never goes away.

The officer is lucky he didn’t kill someone else as well while doing this shite. An uncontrolled car at high speeds. Probably the most selfish way of offing yourself that I’ve heard

Friend with the NYPD told me that back in the day they would “allegedly” get an officers gun cleaning kit out and put it next to the body at police suicides so the shooting would be deemed accidental even when everyone knew otherwise. So the family could collect on the police pension. They don’t do it anymore so now their suicide rate has skyrocketed statistically even though nothing has changed in reality.
