The initial shot from his pellet gun didn't kill the bird so he shot it several more times.
Will only be charged with hunting without landowner's consent, a misdemeanor

I thought he was black, but it is even worse, he is Hispanic. A Hispanic kid, in Texas, killed a bald eagle. No bueno, kid. This won't end well for you at all.

Maybe it's time to rethink our national mascot if it can be so easily defeated by a small Mexican with a pellet gun.

Neighbors will hate him and his family forever.
Apparently this eagle was one of two that nest/roost/whatever the frick an eagle does in the neighborhood. News said they've been around for 4-5 years.

I cant believe they are only charging him with a misdemeanor! I mean he is 17 years old. He knew what he was doing. If he was 12 it would be different. Fing disgraceful.
