Funds that they paid back in a few months?
Got anything to back that up? My recollection is award was 2009 and repayment happened in 22.

Yeah, apparently you’re right.
They took a loan from the federal government, not a bailout like GM and Chrysler did and paid their loan back finally in 2022.
Same, I’m pretty damn happy with it and my 2016 Ecoboost before it.

Agreed but it was still a below market rate loan that was subsidized by the US taxpayer.

Toyota went full retard on these turbo V6s.
They really did. All they had to do was some minor interior updates, add a modern infotainment system like everyone else and upgrade the fuel economy a bit.
The new engines are obviously terrible and I'm not a huge fan of the new exteriors except for maybe on the 1794 level models.
I was a Toyota guy my entire life but specifically avoided buying a Tundra last year when I purchased a new truck because of these issues.

I thought they never got recalls?
Weird.
Weird.

Who keeps convincing automakers to bet on those damned things?
Climate change? Those V8s had shite gas mileage.

It wasn’t all a fuel economy issue. The old V8 couldn’t pass the new emissions regulations. Turbos during testing look great because they do emissions testing under light loads where they can stay off boost. Naturally a smaller engine in light load looks great for emissions.
In the real world, the turbo engine don’t last as long, when they are making power while in boost, aren’t very efficient and ultimately don’t deliver on their promise. They just look good for regulations.
