Never understood why vans get a bad rep

They are extremely practical if you have kids.

I know it's not a "minivan", but these full sized V8 conversion vans are actually sort of cool:

And of course there are those Quigley 4x4 vans that are outfitted for camping:

In general, men are just as uptight about other's opinions as women.

Which honestly is the most unmanly thing you can do.

I will sip a fruity blue beach drink in my minivan with crocs on, and I’ll still be more of a man than some skinny jeans wearing dude with a jacked up truck, boots that ain’t never kicked shite and a cowboy hat with a Gucci label.

A man’s a man because he’s a man. Not because of what he drives, or wears, or drinks.

looking at the Highlander, but she is open to a van.

We've had a 2011 Sienna for about 7 years now, and a 2013 Highlander for 3. The Highlander is great for getting all of the family in one car for around town. But the 3rd row flipped up leaves you little to no room for luggage, so it is pointless on a trip. We have 3 kids, and one still in a carseat/booster seat. With the Sienna, you can have all 3 rows up, and still have tons of room behind it for luggage. They get decent mileage on the gas models, and obviously the Hybrids are even better.

The Highlander, at one time, and maybe still so, was built on a Camry frame. It drives more like a car than a truck, is FWD, and won't feel like your 4Runner at all. It took me a little while to get used to a FWD vehicle, since all of mine up until there were RWD or a 4x4. Since you mentioned just 2 kids, it will be perfect for that. The vans run a long time though. And if you're ever moving furniture around or need to stack plywood or drywall, with the 3rd row down and 2nd row removed, you have a 4'x8' area in the Sienna. Part of why we've decided to get rid of our Highlander and keep the Sienna.

Especially when the alternatives are pilots and highlanders. All the alternative are just generic SUVs that all look and feel the same. I’m thrilled to see the VW Buzz minivan hit the road just so we have some aesthetic variety on the road.

We just got a new 2021 and it is so nice. Has so much more room than an SUV and I liked the price tag a lot better. The new style doesn’t look like an old school van. It has more of a crossover look.

Plus you can’t beat the recliners in the second row.

CarGurus app. Bought two vehicles off it.

Both dealers drove the vehicle toy house to sign the papers.

I got an odyssey when we had a third kid. First piece of advice, if there is any chance at all you have a third, get the minivan now. We traded in a three year old Pilot for the van because the third car seat makes a big difference.

That said, drive multiple because you never know what features you’ll prefer. We didn’t look at the sienna, although I hear good things. We looked at the odyssey and a Chrysler Pacifica. I actually expected to go Pacifica because of the stow and go seats, but they weren’t all they were cracked up to be. Pacifica was more “fun to drive” than odyssey. But odyssey has a little more space and it has the seats that slide sideways in addition to front/back, and is capable of holding eight if you leave your middle seat in the second row. That has actually been really useful to us.

Pros: Very comfortable, Toyota reliability, the new ones are all hybrids so they're the most fuel efficient minivans out there (other than the unreliable plug-in Pacifica).

Cons: 2nd row chairs do not remove easily from the vehicle. While they can be removed, they're not meant to be, only slid forward. Since minivans can haul large loads inside if you remove/fold all of the seats, that's a downside in my book. They can be removed, but it takes some work. On the other hand, they slide backwards/forwards for amazing legroom.

The Sienna and Odyssey are the GOAT minivans. My mom drove a Sienna from my 5th grade year until my freshman year of college. She sold it to this lady who drove it for another 5 years and she sold it to someone else.

The smaller seat of the split removes easily, and my wife can even get it out. The larger one is just awkward. Not all that heavy if you know where to grab it, but it is cumbersome. She never bothers trying to remove it, but if she needs it out, I can take it out in a couple of minutes.

We had one for 16 years. Eventually I let the teens drive it. I loved it for hauling kids and traveling. It was very comfortable.

Never driven a Sienna but I’ve been to plenty of places off the grid (Central America, Carribean) where middle-aged taxi owner-operators had them.

Very reliable, according to them.

Get this.

The Mercedes R63 AMG is already a class of its own. Where would you find a minivan that produces 503 hp (375 kW) and 465 lb-ft (630 Nm) of torque right off the showroom, right?

Anyone have opinions on packages for the Sienna? Limited, LE, XLS all seem to vary the price a good bit.

Vans are very practical. Loved mine when I had it. So much more room than other vehicles.
