Making the decision to not go with my wife when my FIL was on his death bed. It was one of those things were I had taken off work to spend time with him and he pulled through and this time I decided to stay thinking he would pull though and he passed. Having my wife put him on the phone and him telling me to take care of his daughter a few hours before his death is something I will never forget.

To not go to the hospital when they pulled the plug on my father. Didn't want my last memory of him sucking his last breath in.

this thread has great promise but people keep posting stupid silly shite.
However I don't really have anything interesting to add.
I did make the decision to let a relative of mine whom I had PoA die that was eaten up with cancer. There was an option to do more things to maybe extend the life a few weeks but she had made clear she wanted to be let go when the time came. So it really wasn't a "tough" decision as it was really the only one to make.

Taking our daughter off life support.
Just so surreal.
Oddly though, as tough a decision as it was, my wife and I knew it was the most responsible and loving decision we could make as parents to ease her suffering.
Still, it's the worst day of my life and I hope I never experience anything that tops is because I don't know if I could survive another hit that hard.
Hug those kiddos, bros and sisters.

As crazy as this site gets, and all the awesome crazy shite that's posted on here that helps me get through my work week, we are all real people and we all have our stories but losing a child is the worst. Prayers sent to you and your family.

I'm sorry to even read those words as the thought of that does make any real man cry.
I think everyone on this board, for the most part, has had a painful time in life...some worse than others, but that's what makes us all human and whole. This country was built on hardships and tough times...I don't want to make this political by any means, but let's not let go of what others have lost and been through making this country what it was and could be again...end of my rant. I'm sorry for your loss good sir, I had to put an uplifting message in there.

Damn man I could not imagine your pain. I am going to give my kids some extra hugs and kisses in the morning. Praying for you and your family

What's the toughest decision you've ever had to make?
I guess we have different definitions of what a tough decision is. For me, its one that concludes with similar yet slightly contrasting results, whether they're both beneficial or detrimental.
Your example would be easy to make. Its put my dog down or have him suffer. I have a dog and I love the shite out of him. So much so that I don't want to see him hurting when its time for him to go, same as I've done 3 dogs before him. Its a PAINFUL decision but certainly not tough.
Mine is that I gave up a clean slate after losing everything to Katrina. Decided to stay and help rebuild with friends and family and the city I love. Starting over with a new city, job, life, etc, was pretty tempting though.

Taking my mother off life support almost 2 years ago.
By far the toughest. All I could do was say a prayer and ask the Lord what direction to go. Even after that it was still very tough. Will be with me forever.

At 34 I found out that the man I thought was my real dad wasn't. It had been hinted around to me for years that this was possible. I blew it off a people just joking around or being assholes. My wife asked me if she could write a letter to my real dad asking a few questions and if he knew about me, also to let him know he had two grandsons. Well she sent the letter and it was received. Not by him but by his wife ( they were married at the time I was conceived, as was my mom and the man that I grew up thinking was my father ) she took the letter and let her youngest daughter read it ( I had two sisters ). A few weeks later my wife received call from my oldest sister telling her about all of the greatness that had gone on over on their end since receiving the letter. At that point I still wasn't sure what my next move would be. I received a call from my real dad, and he asked if I would be willing to meet him and I he rest of his family. This is where the first decision came in. At that point I was comfortable in my life in the way it was. I wasn't sure if I wanted the change or to have the opportunity to ask the questions that I knew I would eventually want to.
I wanted to be a 100 % sure that this stranger was indeed my father, so I wanted a DNA test done before I brought my kids to meet this man. The test came back and was 99.7% that he was my father. So I agreed to bring my family to meet him and his family. I let it be known beforehand that I wanted nothing from him ( money wise ), and would take nothing. I also said I didn't want to cause his family any trouble, or more than I already had. When I brought my family over everyone instantly connected. I worried that his wife would hate me or not want anything to do with me or my family, but she immediately accepted us also. We all spent along of time together weekends and holidays. Then I guess after a while the thought of what he had done started to sink in with his wife and they began to have issues. He also started to have issues with his two daughters. I felt as if this was all because of me and I felt as if I was costing him his family so I made the second hardest decision. I decided to remove myself from the equation and allow him to work on his family. I felt as if I had caused enough damage in his family and stepped away.
Well that's my Jerry Spinger story and I feel like shite everyday first for contacting them, then for walking away. This Is really the first time I have said anything about it all since it happened. My wife and kids know me well enough not to bring it up or ask me about it.

I just turned down a shitty job making 75k for a great job making $12 an hour. That was a tough decision.

Not the toughest but I injured my knee last week and will require surgery. I'm on medical leave from work probably for at least a month. For some reason I decided it was time for a new car Saturday. Now I have a car note that I didn't have before and very much uncertainty about money.
