Not the toughest but I injured my knee last week and will require surgery. I'm on medical leave from work probably for at least a month. For some reason I decided it was time for a new car Saturday.

Choosing to leave a job I truly hated for a new career path that was yet to be known with a very young family. Me and my SO were beyond scared but came through just fine.
Now, we're loving life and thankful for going that period.

I've read some sad posts on this thread and realize that the folks I enjoy funning with on this site have been through the fire. I started reading because I wanted to post a joke or sarcastic comment but when you shared your experience my feelings changed. I can relate, because I don't know how I will live without my kids, to the pain you and your family must have endured when you let your daughter go. I'm sorry you had to make such a difficult and terrible decision.

For me it was putting my dog down. I had him all through my coming of age years and he was a good, loyal pup.

Divorce. Even when it is clearly the right decision, it's difficult with kids.

Damn. Sorry for your loss. That has to be the toughest decision any parent can make.

To be fair, that's your customers' tough decision.

Putting my son in a drug rehab facility was the hardest decision for me. I know it sounds like a no brainer but I struggled with everything about it. He hated us for it, but I hated more the fact he would be dead.

HAHA! NO! I haven't retired yet and I have no intention of working as hard as a grocery bagger when I do.

A lot of touching stories in this thread. Hopefully you're all hanging your heads high even though the decision was tough.

During my grandfather's memorial service, and after decades of second chances, I decided to cut off all contact with my father. He was not someone I wanted in my family any longer. He died 3 years later, homeless, with a growing list of medical issues as a result of so many bad life choices, never having met his granddaughter (who came along 2 years after my decision to remove him from my life), and likely never fully understanding where his life went wrong. Anyone ever felt guilty about the relief you feel even though you know someone on the other end of your decision hurts so much?

I'd say trying to convince both my parents to let me come back home to help take care of my dad. I should say my so and I made this decision shortly after experiencing a miscarriage during the week of Christmas.
I had just finished my four years of active duty in the army and I didn't realize how fast my dad's colon cancer came back and was more aggressive. I was able to take some leave about three months before since my grandpa passed away and he was really healthy. That changed in 3 months.
Although my memories of him were mainly his last days and me putting him on the gourney and into the van. We were able to give him what he wanted which was to be in his home during his final days and peacefully.
I considered doing this an honor and privilege and really wish he was still present, but I can see part of my dad in my daughter now so he's not really gone

This may sound silly given all of the other decisions other posters have made, but mine was deciding not to stay with my wife when we were trying to work on things. We married young, and as a result had money issues right off the bat. I took a job as a traveling contractor to better our financial situation. We split a year later.
I wanted very badly for us to work out, so I took a job at home. We reconnected before divorce was finalized, and I realized I just wasn't happy and I shouldn't have to suffer financially and mentally to make her happy.
The divorce went through, and we're both better for it. I continued traveling for work for another 2 years, and have been to some amazing places. I now have a local job making great money and doing something I love, which would have never happened if I stayed.
She's engaged now, and opened her own business. I wish her the best. Oh and no kids, so it was a clean break.

I was going to respond to Paul Allen' post, then decided to leave it alone.
Tough decision.
Tough decision.

Leave or stay.
I chose to stay and things are better than ever now. She changed and I changed.
