I really wish they issued hail sizes in actual measurements rather than obscure round objects like nickels, golf balls, baseballs, dimes, etc. Just a pet peeve.

Have you ever seen hail? It doesn't come in exact, equal measurements. Obscure round objects are probably best to use to reference hail size.

I think it's because most people are dumb and need a reference they understand. It's gotten so bad in Alabama that everyday before we have a weather outbreak they are putting up a map of the state with counties listed asking people to make sure they know what county they are in and what counties are around them.

Where did you get your YTD rainfall totals for Monroe and BR?

The cell heading for EBR/Ascension has pretty decent hail probabilities and the tops are over 32,000'. It's holding its own and flares up then slightly down every few minutes.

You weren’t too far off with Monroe. They’ve gotten about 30 inches this year.

dry air from the desert SW moves east into the moist air of the gulf coast
when they meet... it can be explosive... esp. if a trigger (say a cold front or shortwave trough) passes through
if there's no cap in place in the atmosphere... the moist air shoots high into the sky and you get severe storms
the dry air & moist air usually meet in the plains areas that we know of as tornado alley and move into the area known as dixie alley
