Pulling soundings from the 00z HRRR. It is a believer in an early morning severe threat into SE Louisiana. Hell, it has 72°/70° at 6AM with a broken line of supercells moving in. It would be a hell of an environment if it doesn't form an actual line earlier. Even if it does form a line, it will be rocking for sure.

This is a reminder the extreme cold solutions on the models require snow cover.

So you are saying that we need to have snow on the ground in order to get extreme cold?

Because I can remember a number of times it has gotten into the single digits and we never got a single flake.

We had a low of 15 in 1996 with no snow prior to that reading.

What about 1989? I'm pretty sure that was all dry and Baton Rouge got down to 8 or 9 degrees.

Storms tomorrow, tornadoes possible. East TX and all of Northern Lousiana.

Sorry to bother you if you’ve already answered this, but what about greater BR area? Tuesday night or Wednesday day? Severe or just a chance
of severe? I know N LA is under the gun. Just wondering if I should keep the horses in the barn or turn them out Tuesday.

It'll be early morning, and there will be a chance of severe. How legit the tornado risk will be, I don't think anyone will be able to say until we start seeing how things are playing out. In the grand scheme of things, BR isn't far removed from the Enhanced Risk area. I wouldn't be surprised to see it get expanded South a bit. I don't really know what will be best for the horses.

It’s been awhile since Baton Rouge got legit severe weather, everything lately has been to our north. Hope this doesn’t catch people off guard

Soundings are looking better (worse) for north LA. Nice dry slot. Way more CAPE now. Hodographs kind of go flat though

74/70 with 2,000+ CAPE and 179 3CAPE at 10am in December.

I saved that one just for funsies.

It does show a primed environment, at least.
