Had mine operated on a couple years ago and nothing really changed for the better. I did have some arthritis from allowing it to go so long though

I tore mine about 7 years ago. I’m 31 now. Didn’t have surgery. Only bothered me when I was extremely active, basketball with my buddy’s, softball, kickball. I have 3 kids now so more more sports like that. It pops and grinds often but nothing major.

Had surgery on mine the thanksgiving before last. I was out of work for 3 months. My knee is good now. In fact it's better than the other one. I'd say get the surgery. One other thing, when I tore my knee up I didn't wait. I got the surgery as soon as I could.

One of my sons had a complex tear. Doc said 85% of the time surgery takes care of it and it’s back to 100%. He had the surgery, healed well, and had no further issues. He played 3 more years of college baseball afterwards. It worked for him.

Tore mine skining in 1979 at age 16. The technology of the day: remove the entire interior meniscus. Bone on bone since, and now at 54, it gives me ongoing minor pain and hassle.

50/50 there. Blew out both knees. Had one scoped and not the other. 15 years ago and both are the same.

Tore meniscus 16 years ago - had to quit running but changed some eating and exercise habits to compensate - all is good and it beats the hell out of having elective surgery w/no guarantee of positive results - if you can avoid doing the things that cause pain, just live with it.

Yea. Had two. 7 day recovery. I ran the CCC in 9min mile pace 10 days after a scope. Do it.

Depending on the tear, repair might not help.

Repair only helps for sure if you have a really displaced tear with a flipped fragment.

I mean.

Is it gonna ache forever if you don't get surgery?

frick that noise.

But dickheads get surgery all the time and half arse their way through rehab and end up no better.

My advice is don't be one of those pussies and get surgery and rehab as best you possibly can and then use that newfound discipline to better aspects of your life.

I wouldn't unless it's locking up on you. It will eventually heal up.

depends on whether you are ready to change your lifestyle and give up a lot of activity or not. You obviously can't get back to running, etc. without eventually having surgery, so you will have to decide based on the reality of the situation.

I tore both mcl and ACL and waited 7 years to get surgery. I started experiencing lower back pain on the reg due to overcompensating. It was in my left leg and basically put all the pressure on right side of my body to lift things etc.
I regret waiting that long because my right side is much stronger than my left. It's balanced out by now but still think I could have avoided the imbalance all together if I would have gotten surgery right away.

I had a small tear in 2014. My doctor is a surgeon but he recommended against an operation. The pain went away after a few months. A year later it got so bad that I could barely play catch without pain. I went to physical therapy and figured surgery would be coming up soon. However it’s been two years and I have almost zero pain. Haven’t done any knee-based exercises for 2 years, just general cardio exercises and running.

I guess what I’m sayjng is these knee injuries are unpredictable as hell.

Have the scope. You’ll be walking the next day. Recovery is quick and easy.
