re: TOPS meant to keep college educated people in LA, instead it is funding TX's workforce

Probably unconstitutional anyway
What? They aren’t forcing you to stay, just making you repay your tuition if you leave or don’t follow the rules. Like a student loan.

There have thousands on this site alone who probably have moved to Houston from Louisiana for a better quality of life yet some want to continually bash these folks.
We don’t have a problem with them and why they moved.
It’s when they start trashing Louisiana and their former neighbors, the hate for Houston and Texas in general comes out.
We can deal with it from native Texans, not so much from Louisiana transplants.

No one in their right mind would do that. And these kids who's parents have paid taxes in this state owe this state nothing.
Take TOPS away from the "best and brightest" in this state and a "brain drain" will be the least of Louisiana's worries. What you'll have is a brain famine.
As it is, the Mississippi and alabama university systems actively recruit bright kids from all over the south and in Alabama's case, all over the country. Take TOPS away from the academic high acheivers in this state and they won't trickle out, they'll flood out.
Alabama for instance will cough up a full tuition scholarship for any kid with a 32 ACT and a standard 3.5 gpa. The university of alabama in Huntsville does the exact same thing and they're STEM program is balls deep in one of the best tech centers in the country.
Get rid of TOPS and academically, this state will lose alot more than it's losing now.

what's worse is how the talk about houston and the suburbs as if it's the south of france.

I wouldn't be where I am without TOPS. I grew up in a family with 7 kids and my mom is a teacher and stepdad worked security details. I have a professional degree and have been working in BR for 10 years. I'm sure there are plenty of instances of people leaving, but I'm also sure a large portion of professionals in Louisiana got a chance because of TOPS.

Texas is far from a utopia. I’m just laughing over the premise that anyone who leaves Louisiana is an ungrateful, fraudulent, & unethical Benedict Arnold whose family hates them.

it's pretty simple why some people wouldn't do that. texas just isn't that appealing outside of money.

As long as they’re fair and we’ll reasoned, not just bullshite trash talk from disillusioned people that left the state.

Like I said earlier in this thread, Houston is a very good place to get a decent paycheck and good quality of life.
But it’s still a bland and very generic American city. I can’t even think of a major landmark there.

Has anyone made this premise or is it just a figment of your imagination?

You’ve questioned my ethics multiple times in this thread for accepting TOPS money without the express intent of spending my early professional years in Louisiana post college.

I’m surprised they can keep the lights on at DK Royal stadium with their workforce

I did. That’s a separate issue altogether.
You said that you were laughing at anyone who says that leaving Louisiana turns you into some ungrateful Benedict Arnold.
I don’t recall anyone making that premise so where is it or is it just a figment of your imagination?

You should probably be more descriptive. Areas outside of Austin and further west into the Hill Country are very desirable. Not the entire state of Texas is Houston and Dallas.

Someone earlier in this thread said I was acting like an ungrateful, entitled bitch for my opinion that I was always planning to do what was best for me personally. If that was in LA, I’d have been fine with staying which is evidenced by me accepting a job here. If it wasn’t, I was going.
My opinion is pragmatic. If that makes me a disloyal, ungrateful bitch, I’m fine with it.

Your opinion on TOPS mind you.
You’re the one claiming that someone said that anyone who leaves Louisiana is an ungrateful Benedict Arnold.
I don’t recall such a statement being made. You’re the one that brought it up.
Posted on 11/29/19 at 6:34 pm to Sentrius
You’re arguing semantics. No one said the exact words “Benedict Arnold” but the implication that I was an unethical and disloyal for not graduating with express desire of spending years and years in Louisiana has been made by multiple people.

How dumb is the state, that they don't have stipulations in the TOPS program.
You have to stay in state for at least 5ish+ years, or pay the money back.
Can't just let people have free money, then expect them to stay?
