re: TOPS meant to keep college educated people in LA, instead it is funding TX's workforce

I’d like you to show me where I signed away the first handful of years of my post collegiate career if I can land a job someone else deems is good enough for me to be forced to stick around for.

I’m not bitter about anything. I worked hard, graduated at the top of my class, and used the free education to springboard myself to early career opps that most LSU grads can’t land.

That’s exactly what I said. LA could be made into an attractive environment for businesses, and it has the scenery and “culture”

On page 6, you said this....

quote:

I worked in LA a few years after college.

You may have not had that intention and the state may not have requested that but that was the spirit of the agreement you signed when you wanted taxpayers to fund your college education.

That's literally why TOPS was enacted into law.

You're just acting like a freeloader after the fact and just trashing Louisiana by saying that's what you would've done being that you would get that degree funded by taxpayers and then hightail it out of here at first chance.

Reminds me of someone constantly talking about and shitting on his ex while he's with someone else.

It’s literally not. I couldn’t care less how you feel about what TOPS is versus what it should be.

I accepted a job in LA only because I landed a good job. I wasn’t accepting some mid or low tier job which is largely all that’s available in the state under some well-intentioned romanticized idea of what you believe TOPS should be.

Then you're mistaken in your belief.

Scenery and culture is not why businesses move. They move because of things like a friendly tax code, good regulatory environment, good legal climate and other tangible things like that. "Scenery and culture" is nice but they're only a lagniappe talking point.

Dallas has a lot to offer but scenery and culture are not any of those things.

As great as the economies in Dallas and Houston are, at their core, they are just bland and generic American cities that are only a great place to live and work in.

LA could be made into an attractive environment for businesses

True.

But scenery and culture will not and never will be why.

It will be because of massive tort reform that cools over this judicial hell hole, a business friendly tax code, and a sufficiently regulatory framework that's pared down to acceptable levels.

You didn’t. Doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t do anything moving forward.

You were given a gift and are acting like an entitled little bitch.

Sorry your family sucks and you didn’t want to stick around your home.

Are you really at a point where you're implying the legislature just enacted TOPS to give free shite to the middle class to watch them leave the state?

Like you think literally no one in the statehouse discussed what the goal was, to keep our best and brightest in state?

Bitter Louisiana transplants like you are a good reason why Houston and Texas gets a lot of shite on here.

And I say you're wrong.

We will never agree on that.

And that's all there is to it.

You’re making a lot of leaps.

You can do what you want moving forward with the program. I just worked within the parameters of the program when I was in it.

I’d argue that the ones that don’t work hard or make good use of the opportunity are the entitled, ungrateful ones.

What are you talking about. I agree that it doesn’t attract businesses

It was a joke because everybody always shits on Dallas due to lack of culture and scenery. That’s why I said it’s not like businesses are attracted to Dallas for the scenery and culture. Why are you arguing with me when I said the exact point you’re trying to make?

correct.

1. Your post assumes this is a four year problem

2. You also assume Rispone would grow the economy, I don’t.

3. Any other questions?

Most high achievers get more by going out of state now. TOPs is keeping some of them here for college and we have a chance they might stay after. Cut TOPs and watch them leave after high school.

It isn't just the kids. Many of of the companies that recruit LSU are recruiting for out of state jobs. The big 4 accounting firms come to LSU and ship their new hires to Texas.

And you doubled down on four more years of the same crap?

JBE has proven he has no interest in stopping the brain drain and he patronizes the same usual suspects that keep Louisiana a terrible place to work and live in.

I just can’t take you seriously when you complain about the terrible economy Louisiana has and then promptly give JBE another four years.

Do you seriously think Rispone just up a built a company that clears 350 million in annual revenue by accident?

That’s not something you can just luck your way into.

JBE has never truly managed anything in his life and the last four years have been absolutely Obama esque “leadership” from him and that makes sense considering he voted for Obama.
