My hospital had 2 COVID units open for the longest time. Neither one ever full.
We just opened our 4th COVID unit today in the hospital and it is filling up quick. Taking up two previous units housed with usual hospital patients.
Cities all over the state of AZ are now mandating masks for everyone because of the increased COVID hospitalizations.
ETA: AZ is the only state to see an increase in hospitalizations, deaths, and positivity(meaning percentage of tests done that come back positive).

My brother did... the person he shares an office with was positive. He didn’t have any symptoms but still got test. Came back positive a couple days later and he ended up showing some mild symptoms for a week or so. He’s about over it now other than still not having sense of taste

Many are being tested by virtue of going back to work, etc. Like all the college football players and the pro golfers. Nursing homes and prisons are being repeatedly tested. There is a lot of mass testing gong on that involves people who would have never been tested back in March or April,

three months ago AZ ICU utilization was at 62% and is now at 84% and has risen steadily over those three months. There is a rise but this is not a spike. The graphs on the AZ site did not give what those hard numbers are.
However for some reason (treatment protocols??) the ventilator use in this same time is only 30% of capacity...

We also got more ventilators. We have plenty of vents from what I’ve been told so that isn’t an issue.
It’s the actual beds that could be an issue later on.
Also....many hospitals struggling with staffing these extra COVID beds.
And with AZ...our extreme summer temps means that we tend to stay indoors as much as we can in the summers and are outside more in the winter months. So that could also factor into more cases,

I know in the case of the Lake Charles recent increase, it was known that there were bunch of people who picked it up a bar. Since the bar was packed (I heard a few hundred people) lots of other people who were there went and got tested.

567 of AZs ICU beds are Covid...there are 1500 regular ICU beds and 2100 for surge...yes bed capacity % is higher
