I used .16 in my calculation or an annualized rate of 2%

C'mon man.
Here's the thing, know thyself.
1. Can I be counted on to pay off my credit card every month?
a. Yes, get a cash back card, pay it off every month
win.
B. No, pay cash/debit, don't run up frivolous debt,
win.
Not trashy or poor, just smart if you know you have no self control when it comes to spending.

Mingo if you're following along with the math here, $1.67 per month for every $1,000 in purchases is about a 0.16% return on every purchase...not quite the best reason to use a credit card as say, 5% back at the grocery store.
No, it's not a better reason than cash back, but it's unequivocally a better financial decision than using cash.

My discover offers 5% cash back at rotating places quarterly. Including Amazon and wholesale stores, which both fell from Sept to december this year.
Couple that with my awesome friend who is a manger at Sam's club and added me as a user on her card so I get her 10% off on fresh meats during the holiday season and a deep freeze...
You end up with me buying about 800 dollars worth of meat that I cut up and vacuum sealed at 15% off.

Having no self control on your spending is, in fact, trashy

Nothing, it's just not as good as credit that you pay off every month.

I don't have a card that uses points. All mine are cash back. My next might be a points one if I thought it was better than my cash back ones.
Any recs?
I use my Citibank 2% cash back anywhere anytime the most. Then my discover 5% cash back at random places when it is a place I normally shop or need something.

I have a number of credit cards, because I have had them so long and it boost your credit score, but I don't carry them. I pay for most everything using money I already have, but the credit score is still important for home and investment property purchases.

hard to argue but I am saying if you recognize your area's of trashiness and work to eliminate that by slight behavioral changes, are you then less trashy?
Few of us have zero trashy inclinations, we need to recognize them and mitigate appropriately to avoid giving into them.
I myself have trouble not responding to know trolls.

I don’t carry cash. Use a credit card and pay it off every month. 800ish credit. Get 1.5% back on all purchases more on special purchases.

Another tip to building credit is to request a credit line increase about every six months on your cards. It's easy and doesn't ping your credit. Usually can be done through the app or website.
This also helps you be able to use your card more without getting above 10-20% of it's limit which will affect your score.

I know he preaches never buying anything on credit. I get it when he comes to trying not to take out loans on stuff if possible. I don't get it for credit cards if you pay them off on time.

Some things cannot be bought with a CC.
Before saying something about illegal activities, if a person owns a bar, many beer and liquor purchases must be paid in cash. Auto and other auction scenarios usually require cash payment. Some restaurants do not accept CCs. Poker games and tournaments require cash. Estate sales and the like generally require cash. If you ask, discounts for cash can be had.
And don't forget the illegal activities...

I pay with cash for a lot of stuff because I have rental properties and I don't want the gubment taking their share.
