I guess the word you were looking for is empirically, and many mom and pop specialty shops, and independent contractors will give generous discounts for paying in cash.

Why would I pay extra (interest) on credit when I can afford something with cash/debit?

What's trashier - paying for things up front with money you already have or buying something with a credit card and having to pay off the balance over time?
Only way using credit makes sense is if you get a lot of points for using it and can pay the balance each month to avoid interest

And this ladies and gentlemen, is why people need to be taught about credit cards and money in school.
Answer: You don't pay interest as long as you pay the bill off in full every month. Instead, they give you points or cash back.
In fact, the only time you should use credit cards is when you can afford something with cash/debit.
Lol, we got part of the US using credit cause they can't afford it, and part not using cause they haven't learned how it works either.

I know he preaches never buying anything on credit. I get it when he comes to trying not to take out loans on stuff if possible. I don't get it for credit cards if you pay them off on time.
If you’re paying CCs off every month, then you’re not Dave Ramsey’s target audience in the first place. The bulk of his program is focused on people who have been overspending on credit for years because they either don’t know how to budget or can’t control their impulses. It makes sense in that case to structure a system that removes tools that enable them to continue to make the same mistakes. If you’ve never lived within your means before, being forced to is a pretty effective teacher.
The long-term usefulness is obviously debatable, but long-term usefulness is kind of a moot question to people who are in trouble right now because they never mastered the foundational basics in the first place. Teaching them the basics, OTOH, at least offers them options for the future.
