They make self cleaning letterboxes that rake the junk out after the cat jumps out. You empty the collection box every other day or so...

I got a three level cage and just closed the bottom door so only the cat could get in.
The dog smells the protein in the cat shite, they make something you can put in the cat food that makes them not want it.

Feed your cat pineapple and the dog will not eat the shite.
Also, if you put it out of the dog's reach, there is a good chance the dog will not get into it.
Whipping her arse doesn't work with dogs. If have to teach dogs by the tone of your voice.. Don't allow the dog to get into litter box and when the dog gets close to it.. Say "nooooooo" (its about the tone), but you have to train the dog that the litter box is not a place for him to go.

There's a child gate that has a pet door in it, works for us since it's big enough for the cat and not the dog. However if you have a small dog, you're fricked

Your vet has a product called For-Bid. It's a powder to mix with your cat's food that will make the stool taste bad (Like it shouldn't already taste bad). Feed it to the cat for a week or so and give the dog full access. After a little bit the dog decides that he doesn't want to eat that anymore. Usually works.

Put the litter box in the laundry room and put a pet door in the bottom of the laundry room door.
BTW we have 2 cats and just got a Litter Robot.
It's expensive but easily one of the smartest things I've ever bought.

Cat shite is like Crack/Meth to dogs.
