My Family may have differing opinions on things but they’re still family. Life’s too short to be pissed off all the time.

If you avoid family over these, likely you are the problem and they are better off without you.

Because they don't want complete separation, and they are scared of the grief if they don't show up.

I like my family. If I thought they were assholes I'm sure I'd stay away.

I'm the same way. Just because we are related does not mean I need to subject myself to abuse. I don't get it either. But I think people who grow up in a dysfunctional environment must not form those same bonds. Most of my family is just a bunch of strangers to me.

Whatever you do, make an effort not to pass down the dysfunctional behavior. More families than not have problems. If you can recognize it and stop it before the generational patterns form in yourself, you beat the system.
