What is the ocean water like there?
I went to the Outer Banks in July one year and the water was cold as frick. It was nice there though.

Can you site cast to Tarpon in Snook on the panhandle like in Captiva?
Sanibel/Captiva is also the seashell capital of the world. You can float for hours a foot off the beach and find tons of cool shells if your into that. I am not into It so much until my 5 year old was.

I don't know where the best beach is but I do know it's not on the east coast

Destin but now I'm curious about Siesta Key.

You can always get lost in the Outer Banks. It is really pretty there. The water is a clean murky, because of the sand color and depth. The wind is always sweeping, the water is cool to cold, but not as cold as California waters.
I like the water on the cool side because there's less chance of picking up dangerous bacteria. Destin in March is perfect.

Where we go in Destin in October /November is also perfect. Beautiful warm sun shiny days without the humidity. The water is still warm and awesomely clear. And the place is very sparsely populated.
I was playing in the surf on 11/27 and it was glorious.
It's the only beach for me.

Sorry but I have spent time down towards Sanibel and the beaches are not up to the total quality of the 30-A beaches. Are they beautiful? Absolutely.
And, don't kid yourself, there is a LARGE trashy contingent down there.

I won't say the name of the literal number one beach because I don't want tourists to over run it and ruin it.
Pleasure Island NC used to be but the local gov now thinks its fun to set up DUI checks so all coming from the beach (island0 aren't allowed to drink. pay for parking
Wrightsville Bch, NC is now fining 3 hundred and fiddy literally
on the spot for drinking or smoking. pay for parking

Best beach in the US is 7 mile outside of Santa Cruz. Best to me at least.

I've visited beaches in at least 10 different states. If you want a "pure beach" experience with beautiful views here's my top 5 beaches that I have visited.
1. Robert Moses State Park, Fire Island NY. I grew up 10 miles from here and it is beautiful.
2. Duck, NC
3. Sunset Cliffs, San Diego
4. Emerald Coast, Florida
5. Cocoa Beach, FL
