They may be true and I'd be 100% ok with that if the financial cost of the consequences were more reasonable. I couldn't exactly afford the extra 7k when I got mine, but the reason I haven't drank and drove once since is not due to the money spent. I don't think money spent is a deterrent for most offenders.
Breathalyzer in your vehicle and the monthly check-in's, MADD, AA, monthly drug tests, community service, etc..
If you get another DWI after all of that then you obviously need a very serious consequence. I think that mandatory prison time should kick in on the 2nd DWI and any that follow.

This actually isn't that bad for this city. There are weekdays that rack up 15 DWIs by itself.

For a first offense DWI? I had no idea

Between fines, court costs, PTI or lawyer fees, they add up quickly.

I am amazed that so many posters here codone drinking and driving....absolutely nothing postive can come from driving a vehicle while drunk.

In LA? If you're paying 24k, you're getting bent over in more ways than one.
For most dwis in LA, you don't even need a lawyer. Just go to court and pay your fees and do what they say.

$9,000 is the most it should cost someone that gets a 1st offense DUI.

You won't pay less than $10,000 in Colorado for 1st offense.

I see what your saying, but one is enough these days to put people in jail. Even if you blow under, they can take you to jail.

Obviously the Addis resident who just got handed his 12th DWI doesn't give a shite so why would I expect anyone else to?

First $3500-5k
Second $5k
Third is definitely more depending on who you have and your end game
Eta: Those are lawyer's fees included

I have no idea but its hard to believe anyone would have to pay $9k for a 1st offense DWI...but part of me hopes that's true if that helps save someone's life

If I'm drunk at a bar and a chick wants to have sex but needs me to drive her home to her place, I'd say that's positive.
