The mayor of all three of Louisiana's cities would be recalled if this were a just world....and the DA's shown the door.

What has she accomplished other than destroying the Mardi Gras tradition in NO (which is an impressive feat)?

Literally everything in the city is much worse and nothing is better.

If you woke up one morning and the mayors of every one of those cities had been eaten in the night by Bigfoot, they’d all be better off.

what's this place like?

quote:

First, there are a lot of transients. There are a lot of people from all over the world who come to south Florida for the weather, atmosphere, and America. You get homeless that are escaping the cold and people who tried a new life and failed. I know that almost every stop light or sign in a busy part of town has a panhandler working it. And every convenience store has someone asking for change when you leave. Its awful. But, desperate people do desperate things.

Next, there's a huge amount of inequality. I don't know the statistics on this but I bet that higher inequality leads to more crime. Think about it, if your poor who would you rob? Plus, if you've been to WPB, you know there's railroad tracks that run through the downtown. Once you cross the tracks from Palm Beach , life gets tougher. You have the most billionaires in the world with homes on Palm Beach then massive poverty across the tracks. That brings crime.

quote:

I’ve lived in West Palm. There was a lot of crime & more drug use than I’ve seen anywhere (heroin, opioids, fentanyl … IV use). I worked in Palm Beach at The Breakers hotel. To work in Palm Beach, I had to have a special ID issued by the Palm Beach PD (as did everyone; it was very divisive, with Palm Beach residents not really associating with people from West Palm. There was a lot of drug use in Palm Beach, too, but by very, very wealthy people. There was mostly cocaine. I recall residents and their children (aged 16-25) having police “turn the other eye” on white collar crime like that.

quote:

It would not be politically correct to answer that question.

BTW: 86% of the jail population is black.

It is in part due to the lack of funding for nighttime sporting venues.

Wonder what’s the common denominator with those 3 cities.

Not surprised AT ALL to see West Palm up that high.

It was a total shithole 30 years ago when I went there to see spring training.

48th in education, almost yearly natural disasters, and any city with a modicum of economic impact is a life-hazard...

New state tagline... "Louisiana... At least the food's good!"

In a day and age of remote work, I just don't understand anyone that has the means and chooses to live there, family and other reasons be damned. That's what they invented planes, trains, and automobiles for.

I feel like there is a common denominator, but I just can’t put my finger on it.
