LA has its own list of school rankings that is more relevant than US News.
Where are these rankings?

It stopped being about evaluating the talent of the kid and became more about who the parent knew.
It was about who you knew 30 years ago and it still is today. The bottom line is that U-High is a socially acceptable “public” high school with the Baton Rouge upper class. You get to pretend your kids go to an elite private school for a fraction of the price. But as this report shows, it’s anything but elite.

It’s why a lily white upper middle class school like Mandeville ranks low here, but very high when using objective data
St Amant has similar demographics to Mandeville and is still ranked. Maybe Mandeville just isn’t as good as Northshore people think?

You can’t trust anything you read anymore. If i’m reading a list of “best schools”, i’m thinking they are based on test scores and college readiness.

Louisiana and Top Ranked Schools is an oxymoron. I have been a teacher for 24 years in Public School Louisiana. Trust me...With the exception of BR High and U-High

North sore has some very competitive private schools that might be attracting students that would otherwise go to public schools.

Ben Franklin graduates an alarming amount of far left activist types. Socialism is the mantra there.

Need some Northshore pumpers to explain how it's possible that none of their schools are in the top 16.

Louisiana Believes
The last data are from 2019 because kids didn't test last year. The metric is SPS (school performance score) and is based on purely academic metrics.
Fwiw, the list is dramatically different from the USNews list once you get past the first 10.

Also, even those scores absolutely do take into effect low income and diversity

There is absolutely no way that Denham Springs is a better school than Central High. I couldn't agree more...or Live Oak for that matter.
Yet there it is in full color.

Can post for a fact that this school among others are fudging their grades and scores to a) look better and b) get more money. Patrick Taylor’s last principal Jamie zapico was allowed to leave with full benefits when she was caught red handed and with plenty of proof altering grades and test scores as well as even giving kids A’s and credit for courses they never took. She should’ve been fired and made an example of but god forbid we embarrass the school or more likely hurt the gravy chain. The students at Patrick Taylor are not all but mostly not the brightest bulbs. The new principal is a little better but still doing things for grades that I would consider cheating and possibly illegal. Jamie Zapico was DEFINITELY breaking the law and we get to pay her a nice retirement for doing so. Yayyy government
I have two kids that attend Patrick Taylor presently. Let’s suffice to say that you know nothing about this.
While the a certain story made the news, if you believe everything you hear on the evening news....then you would never test into any of the Advanced Academies.
I will tell you from first hand knowledge that the new principal is lazy and does NOTHING on her own. While very nice, she is 100% a “Yes Ma’am”. Period.
Sounds like you do not like Jamie, or you are just a gullible person. Either way, do not speak with such certainty on subjects you know very little about.

What’s the admissions process/requirements?
My kids took a test when they were 5-ish. Before pre-K. In the 2 years between my son taking the test and my daughter taking it, the score required to be accepted has jumped significantly. This is due to the increase in parents having their kids take this test.
If you do not qualify for a spot in one of the schools in the Advanced Academy system, there is a waiting list. I have no idea if there is a point in time which you are required to retake the test.
Someone mentioned that this has become a drain on some of the local private schools. That is 100% true. I went to Jesuit, and am friends with the principal today. He and I have had this exact conversation. But why pay $12K/year for Jesuit when the same or better education can be had for free? Before anyone argues that point, Patrick Taylor has had 3 kids score a perfect 36 on the ACT thus far this year.

Getting a "C" grade by averaging "A" and "F" grades is unacceptable. Good school systems don't need magnet or "ringer" schools

Based on ACT Mandeville, Northshore, and Fontainebleau are the best non-charter (private light) schools in the state. Pretty damn impressive.
