Good list Though Texas at the bottom is a little surprising

Yeah, it's mostly from hating Dallas and traveling through Texas. Houston and Austin are good in my book

Doing the same thing in a few weeks. Starting in Seattle and ending in San Diego. Sucks that Big Sur won't be on my list but going inland a little bit won't kill me

Anything you suggest seeing/doing that I might not already have down?

I'm going to give you a locals only tip for Seattle. Check out Pike Place Market. Keep it quiet though. Don't want it overrun by tourists.

I don't want 12 months of beach weather

Amen to that. In an ideal world, I wouldn't want any months of beach weather. I heard about a guy who was truly living my dream. He taught ski lessons here during our winter and then went to New Zealand to teach ski lessons during their winter. For like 5 years straight he never saw shitty weather.

If you're passing through Santa Rosa, definitely stop at Russian River Brewing and pick up some Pliny the Elder if you're into beer.

Carmel by the sea is a must stop, if it isn't already on your list. We just so happen to stop there during the Pebble beach golf tourney and we met Jordan Spieth at Casanova (great Italian restaurant out there).

Further south, Los Olivos was a really cool little wine tasting town that we stumbled upon while driving through California, Sideways was filmed there. If you're into wine, you may want to check it out, it's off of HWY 154. Also, Bell Street Farm is a fantastic lunch spot in Los Alamos, just down the road from Los Olivos.

Santa Barbara was a really awesome walkable city, not sure if you planned on stopping there.

Pretty amazing that one state can be home to both Big Sur and Bakersfield.

California City might be the most unsightly town in the country.

That's bad....but Belle Glade, Florida is worse.

I forgot to mention, but while you're in wine country you should definitely stop in Yountville and go to Bouchon Bakery. Their beef bourguignon pastry is one of the best things that I've put in my mouth

California is easily in my top 5 favorite and top 5 least favorite.

Alaska wins favorite.

Least favorite - Alabama/Mississippi.

But it's too simple minded - every state has good and bad areas. That's why California makes both lists.

Favs--Louisiana, Fla, Texas, Bama, and Vegas (oh that's Nevada). Screw Cali, NY, Alaska, Oklahoma and Cali again.
